And I thought anime was bad in the addictive and costly department. As a Youngling, I was not much into gaming. My parents didn't allow it. Even after Li'l Bro got a Game Cube, I wasn't all that interested. Sure I played a couple fighting games, but after getting my rear-end handed to me by Li'l Bro a few million times, I resigned myself to watching.

And then I got it in my head to play Kingdom Hearts. And I caught the gaming bug. Badly. Here was a game I could beat even at n00b status and have fun doing it. So I started to branch out. I inherited my PS2 from Li'l Bro and started buying games for it. A little Battlefront here and Lego Star Wars there. Some Guitar Hero for when I'm feeling my inner rockstar.

All too soon, Li'l Bro left for Colombia for 2 years and gave me his Wii on extended loan (possibly to become forever). More Guitar Hero (that was his already) and I took on LoZ: Twilight Princess. I felt pretty accomplished after that. So that Christmas, I bought myself a PS3 and Arkham Asylum.

I drew the line, however, at buying a system for which I only wanted one game. And that system was the PSP and the game was KH: Birth by Sleep (you might be noticing a pattern here ). Not only did the Nintendo 3DS offer 3 Kingdom Hearts games (DDD and the two DS games), but there was Ocarina of Time, Pokemon, and many other games to justify a several hundred dollar purchase.

But now, I have discovered FFVII: Crisis Core. For PSP. And I want it. Which means I now there are 2 games to make it worthwhile and I need to save up for a system I wasn't intending on buying in the first place.

    DOES IT EVER END?!

Not really. There are always more games I want to play or try out. And I would enjoy them, I'm sure. But I would have to spend all my time playing video games to justify the money spent on them, and to finish them all. As it is, I still also like to play the games I already HAVE. I have decided to limit myself to games in series I already know that are new, or that are cheap because they have been out for a while. I just bought my first copy of Knights of the Old Republic 1, for example. I have 2, and played 1 on my brother-in-law's Xbox years ago, but never got it myself. I just find it isn't worth it to constantly drop cash on new games when I have games I haven't fully enjoyed yet.

That's the way I am. The only new game I've ever bought was KH: DDD because I love the series so much. Everything else I buy secondhand after it's been out a LONG time. I just hate how one series can be spread over so much hardware that it hasn't been worth it to me to get what's considered the best game in the series.

        Nope. Never.

In my house we have a rule that if we can't scrape up a minimum of 5 must-have games, we don't get the system. Not unless there's a very special reason for getting a specific system/game combo, and it would have to be notably special.

However, as we're both computer-gamers primarily, we end up accruing games on Steam on a fairly regular basis...

And we have an XBox we got for cheap when Circuit City went belly up. And we're waiting on getting the PS3 we got for even cheaper (payment against a debt) fixed, at which point we'll have yet another system for which games are available.

War. War nev-... oh, wait... where was I?

        Right.

        No. It never ends.

        ^-.-^

Its called plastic Crack for a reason.

But yeah no, gaming in general is a viciously fun addiction lol.
Like you Jedi and Barracuda - I get select games new I know I'll enjoy or seriously want the bonus stuff(Halo series, Assassins Creed for example) - But I also get alot of fun out of replays, (Borderlands (replayed 2), Fallout 3 (replayed 2), New Vegas(replayed 3 times)).

Heh, I don't have ANY gaming systems and that one looks good to me...

but then I got interested in FFVII through fanfiction, never played the games in my life.

I'm weird, what can I say...

I love FFVII. I got FFVII and an old PS1 from an ex boyfriend back in my non-gamer days. I started the game a few times, but never got very far. Had I realized then what he'd given me (aside from the massive amount of grief and general PITA-ness), I might have been slightly less pissed when the relationship went belly up.

Then one day I said to myself, "Self, finish that freaking game." So I did and I loved it. Though I do wish they would do a rerelease with updated graphics and fix the translation errors.

It was amazing how much more sense Advent Children made once I finished FFVII. >.>

This. THIS. Oh, my GOD, THIS! (Can you tell I'm a minis whore?)

I can't even begin to estimate how many thousands of $$ I've sunk into rulebooks, paint, brushes, terrain supplies, and the metric f&%#ton of plastic, resin and pewter miniatures I have around my house in various stages of completion. Hell, I have a dragon figurine that my wife had to barter my soul back for. It's way more than I've spent on consoles, games, and even my gaming PC.

Not that I don't do any sort of electronic gaming. It's just that most of it is on my PC rather than on a console. Only console I own is a PS2 that hasn't been turned on in about a year, and there's a bunch of games that I love playing on it.

I've refused to get into MMO's because I know that I'd end up hooked forever, and I don't want to end up paying a monthly fee and losing all of my social life to World of Warcrack or something.

And the costs to get into wargaming is exactly why I haven't gotten into 40K or their ilk. Even though part of me wants to. (moar dakka!)

Now I've recently gotten onto Steam.

Apparently Star Wars Old Republic is going free to play and Mr Jedi said he was surprised I hadn't downloaded it yet. I had to explain to him that if I got SWOR, he would never see me again.

I had a huge RPG game addiction. I played every Final Fantasy up to XI (not including XI). Online addiction also. Started with a game called Stick in the Mud (MUDD). Only broke that really after WoW. Try grinding a Night Elf Priest solo (or duo) in Vanilla. It will break you of your addiction lol. Heck I couldn't log onto Everquest without having a hundred people saying "We need a COMPETENT enchanter for X, please come raid with us." Seems most enchanters if they got sneezed on panicked and got the whole party wiped. Anyhow..

Once I grinded my Night Elf priest to level 60, and lost contact with Fyreball..it just was not the same. Lost my addiction. I still love a good Roleplaying game, but just no longer spend every waking moment playing them. It's like anything else, in moderation..it is fun and enjoyable.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

Steam owned my wallet during the summer sale....>.<

And let's not get started on my pretty PS3 games....

Or the fact I'm such a hardcore KH fan that I'm writhing over how to justify a 3DS (besides Ocarina...oh hell, I already know I've justified it to myself between DDD and OoT...>.<)

                          *pssst* Hey you. Yeah, you.

Didja know that a large percentage of the MOGs out there are free to play, now? Only a few still use the subscription model. So, you could actually get totally lost in an MOG without spending any money.

Well... that is, unless you want extra character slots... or special costume options... or special power packs... or....

I'm currently being toyed with by the Lego games for the PS3... we only have a PS2 and most of the Lego games are on PS3 but I won't have a system we won't use. However the PC versions of these games are as ropey as old beef unless you have the *very exact* video card they designed with.

Of course I'm currently speccing up a new Laptop PC since my 3yr old laptop is hitting its max of what it can handle on the minimum allowed settings for gaming and I want all the pretties on that too. Especially when Torchlight 2 hits the scene in about a month or so. I want that puppy running fast.
