I just watched The Woman in Black the other day, and it was an ok movie... Wasn't completely scary, but it was startling at times. I have two- No... THREE questions for you good people:

Question 1; Did anyone else watch it? Did you find it scary at all?

Question 2; Can anyone recommend any horror movies that *might* make me scream?

Question 3; Anyone want a cookie?

I saw it and I thought it was quite well done. Have you seen "The Others" or "The Orphanage" yet? and I am currently turning a turkey carcass into stock for soup, and have most of a pumpkin pie left so no thanks on the cookie =)

I've seen it. It's the first film in a while that I'd call scary. I usually have no problems watching films that are meant to be scary - if I wake up in the middle of the night I've been known to put one on and have no problems watching them alone.

Woman in Black made me jump several times and I watched it in the middle of the day. Ridiculous. I will be seeing the sequal though... just because.

The only one that I can think of was 'The Dark' (John Fawcett) but I've rewatched it and it's not so bad. Oh and yes I would like a cookie, thank you!

I liked Woman in Black. Very atmospheric.

Insidious gave me a case of the heebie jeebies.

I like "complicated" cookies. The chunkier and more candy-laden the better.

At one time, I was a horror addict. Loved watching things like Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street..but then .. gory yes..but the music was what really seemed to give me the creeps. Horror then seemed to become more about 'torture porn' then actual "OMG THERE IS SOMETHING OUT THERE AND IT IS GOING TO GET ME!". Either that or 'action horror' (like Underworld) of the two Action Horror is a thousand times better then torture porn.

Not much surprises me any more in horror movies. I've been made to jump a couple of times, which is awesome, but over all..horror just isn't the same now that I am grown. If there is any children of the corn out there might give them a try. Normally pretty decent for the 'jump' factor. Go classic and watch Silver Bullet. Jeepers Creepers is fun (though not really too startling).

Horror has become about the blood and the killing (yeah I know the ones I listed are that more then anything) not the psychological aspect. Things seen just out of the corner of your eye..shadows and things that go bump in the night. If you find a GOOD horror movie like that let me know. I could use a good scare (The Mist COULD have been that..but as usual the Hollywood aspect got in the way)

            2. I'm not sure. I like j-horror or k-horror.
            3. I has peanut butter chip peanut butter cookies...trades?

              Cyber-cookies for all!!

Btw, thanks for the suggestions. I'll try and see them all as much as possible. (I still haven't seen Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm yet! Freddy Vs Jason was OK though.)

Ok just a warning about the Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elmstreet, and Halloween series. Some are good, some are bad, and some are REAL bad. Depends on taste of course..but just letting you know..some of them get very repetitive..and some of them will have you scratching your head wondering "What the heck were they thinking"

I'm a fan of suspense movies.

The current crop of "horror" that's really just torture porn I can totally live without. I don't like gore on the best of days, and stuff that's as poorly written as the original Saw (most of it was fine, but there were massive problems with some of integral points that totally "broke" the movie), it just makes me grind my teeth.

The original Alien was scary. So was an old Disney flick called Watcher in the Woods. Though the latter might be as much because I saw it in the theater as a kid as much as anything.

I've never really been a big fan of the scary movies. I've seen my share of them, but it's just not really my "thing." I think the blood/killing has become more central to the "horror" movie than the psychological/creepy aspects. And that latter is the part I like best, because it depends a great deal more on some good writing, directing, and acting.

These days I get my scares/creepy by reading creepypasta, SCP Foundation, or watching "Marble Hornets."

good points. Gore isn't exactly bad in movies, but it can be over-the-top sometimes too. Kinda like how some action movies have gratuitous sex/nudity some horrors have ... well that too, but the same with the blood & gore.

I rather prefer it when it adds to the film rather than just trying to gross everyone out.

although ... the original Saw. that one gave me the fucking creeps when I finally saw it on DVD. especially seeing Carey Elwes [blank]cutting his own fucking foot off, and how pale they made him look from the blood loss. self amputation has always given me the creeps, faked or real-life stories[/blank].

However, when I went to see Saw 2 in the theatre... disappointed? Fuck I was BORED. Dunno why they left the lights on dim - perhaps anticipating people walking out? - but I was thankful, cos I had enough light to read my book during the boring parts. I gave up on the series after that since it looked like it was just degrading into seeing how much gore and fucked up shit you can get someone to do if they're desperate enough.

Now interestingly... I'm not sure if it's the writing or acting, or just the fact that I hadn't slept yet, but when I finally saw The Haunting, it kinda freaked me out a bit. Although in the end I thought it was rather sweet. Scary & Sweet, okaaay but I liked it anyway.

Oh yeah and watching stuff as a kid vs an adult - yep. The Shining scared the fuck out of me. And I'm talking bout the edited-for-TV version. Then I read the book... and um. Was it suppose to be that funny? Seriously, I liked the psychic-ish aspects of it but the "Time to take your medicine" parts made me laugh. I was a weird kid in middle / high school I guess. After that, the movie also became rather funny too. I don't remember if I saw the remake though... but it stars "Brian" from Wings so ... possibly. He's really pretty good in dramatic roles in my opinion.

these days tho... i somewhat *let* movies scare me. so those "make you jump" scenes will make me jump just from the "boo - gotcha!" effect, but actually scare me? Not really. I tend to go more for the horror-mystery styles now where you're trying to figure out what's really going on. Like Gothika, or that Shutter Island one, or Shutter.

"28 days later" maybe, if you're into zombies (well, zombieish anyway, not classic Romero style zeds).

I saw the Woman in Black and I really liked it, and only really because it was one of those old-time scary ones instead of one that focused on gore and cut off body parts.

I agree with the poster who recommended The Others, which is another one I enjoyed.

As a child back in the dark ages, I used to sneak downstairs when my parents went to sleep on weekends and watch Chiller Theater and Creature Feature, so a lot of the scary movies I really like are ollllld. The original Haunting and Haunting of Hell House both kept me up at nights and I still cannot watch the Exorcist. Which I begged and begged them to see but they wisely kept me away from it

It all depends on what you enjoy - gore or scary.

p.s. And I know it's not technically "scary" but I adored Zombieland. An it was pretty gory but it was so freaking funny. Loved Woody Harrelson.

I'ma go old school with my suggestion: The Birds. That movie still scared the crap outta me. And it gets worse when I'm driving along and see a big group of birds chilling on a power line. Eep!

Me too! The best way to get me to jump out of my seat is to put a fake hand on my shoulder from the back seat of the car. (Hopefully, my SO won't read this 'cause he would do it just to see what would happen). Can't even remember the name of the movie.

I like movies that start out normal then go sideways then go off the cliff.
Most of these movies didn't get the best reviews, but are the few that made me jump:
Quarantine: Pretty TV lady goes on a ridealong w/ the fire dept. to a routine call at an apartment - next thing you know...
Stir of Echos: Kevin Bacon lets his sister-in-law hypnotise him at a party for fun, he sees something disturbing and next thing you know...
Below: WWII survivors of a ship sinking get rescued by a submarine then next thing you know...
Monsters: Pretty lady needs help getting out of Mexico before the alien migration quarantine is in effect NTYK...
Pandorum: Young man wakes up early for his shift of the spaceship. Things aren't quite right then NTYK...

ETA - this is more a psychological drama - but Identity was an edge of my seat movie for me.
