  • Well that was f*cking stupid of me

Today I walked into a window. An open window. Let me explain how I managed this feat of brilliance.

Our conservatory gets bloody hot in the sunlight & due to the previous owners massive incompetence, once the ceiling fan is on the only way to switch it off is to turn off the power with the trip switch for the downstairs light - so because of this the only way to feel cooler is to open as many windows as possible.

So I open the windows, including the one next to the french windows and proceed to think 'hey, it's a nice day out - I'll sit on the deck & read'. I grab my e-reader and head out, pop the reader on the table outside (which is quite close to the conservatory because the back garden &deck are both rather small) and start my walk to the shed to get a chair out. I take a step and find the corner of the open window (it opens outwards) with the top of my head.

It freaking hurt but I am rather used to bumping my head on door frames (they're 6'6, I'm 6'8 - elementary maths there) so I carry on my day after some quiet swearing.

I mention it to my gf later who takes a look. Apparently I've knocked a chunk out the top of my head which has left a rather groovy looking clot.

Yes, yes I know I should probably get it checked out but I haven't for a few reasons

    1) I'm an adult so I get to decide if I go to hosp
    2) The bleeding has stopped, there's nothing more they would be able to do other than make it look less pretty than it is now
    3) I've had none of the red flags associated with head injuries - plus my gf is ambulance crew with a volunteer ambulance service, so should I develop any of these red flags she can recognise it & take me to A&E.

All in all I was a bit of a doofus - I won't be opening that particular window again if I even think I'll be going outside.
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.
