  • Thoughts and prayers for my mom, please.

Last week it was my aunt, this week it's my mother. Wonder who's going to fall victim to the sickness roulette to complete the trifecta?

My mother has an infected bursitis on her elbow, caused by a bug bite. She went to the doctor yesterday who gave her penicillin and drew a purple mark on her elbow and warned her that if it spread outside the line that she has to go to the emergency room.

My mom's in the emergency room right now, getting IV antibiotics as we speak. The penecillin did nothing to help. So, please, thoughts and prayers? Thank you.

If the doctors have not tested her for MRSA, please make sure they do that right away.

MRSA is often misdiagnosed as a bug or spider bite, and it's resistant to penicillin. For some reason, some doctors don't automatically test for it. Make sure they do, it can be dangerous.

My daughter had it at the beginning of summer. That was some scary, scary, nerve wracking shit. My kid's ped tested for it right off, she says she's seen a considerable increase in community acquired MRSA.

This stuff scares the crap out of me.

You've got it, ralerin. Hope she's OK.

Good thoughts, hugs, prayers, cookies, and high-power antibiotics being sent. At least one of those should be already there. Hope everything gets better for her.

Same thing happened to my father-in-law, in the same place. He spent a couple days in the hospital (bitching the entire time because he hates to sit still) getting IV antobiotics, and was fine. His arm looked really gross for a while though.

Hope your mom feels better soon!
