  • friend's house got robbed while husband was asleep

I have a friend from work, let's call her Trudy. A year ago she got married. Guy can't keep a job though not his fault; he gets a job and then business lays off people.

A few months ago Trudy and hubby started to rent a house. Mostly because hubby had a friend move in with them. Also, the friend's gf moved in with them, so they needed more room. gf said she would help pay electricity and bought a window a/c that jacked up the electric bill. As you guessed, gf dumped bf and she didn't help pay electric bill.

NOw the neighborhood they moved into was iffy. They didn't like a neighbor.

More than a month ago hubby calls Trudy at work to tell her the house got robbed. His wallet and cell phone was stolen. The new tv was stolen. Luckily Trudy had her ipad at work. Trudy and all decide to move and within a week where in an apt.

I found out yesterday that her husband was asleep when they got robbed. He took a pill (to sleep? for allergies?) and he was out.

I'm just thinking to myself, who robs a house when the owner is there? It didn't sound like he was tied up, so either a robber does his thing in a min, but really, it would be dangerous if the owner woke up.

So this sounds fishy to me. The hubby is always loosing things, like a master key to their new apartment. Maybe he lost his wallet and phone and sold their tv for some reason.

What do you think? I won't mention this to Trudy because it doesn't sound good.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.

I won't harbor a guess either way, but I do know of at least one person who could sleep through a robbery..or a marching band coming through the house...

My cousin is one such person, and doesn't need to have taken any sort of medication. This is how I was able to pull off one of the biggest pranks of my life (more info available through pm for those who wish). So it IS possible..but like you .. I don't know many robbers who would come in see somebody sleeping and STILL rob a place without tying them up, etc.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

Despite what you may gather from Cary Grant movies, thieves are usually not very intelligent people. It's entirely possible someone broke in without realizing anyone was home, and took items from another room without even entering the bedroom.

Two times robberies occur from what I can tell: Middle of the day (when owners are supposed to be away) and middle of night (when owners are supposed to be asleep).

If he took a pill to get some sleep, those can seriously knock you out. Depending on where they keep stuff, his wallet and cell phone could be near the front of the house (could easily happen with me, for instance).

Robber comes in, finds front of house, takes phone and wallet, takes tv, and works towards back of house to find somebody asleep, so hightails it before guy wakes up.

        Easily plausible to me.

It's entirely possible, especially if the thieves are experienced. Back in the 90's, we still lived in our old house (me, my sisters & mom in upper flat, brother in lower flat). One summer night, he left windows open in the dining room. His bedroom was off a little breezeway that connected the dining room with the kitchen.

Someone popped the screens, came in, disconnected the VCR from the TV, stepped into his room while he was sound asleep and grabbed his pants off the chair (his wallet was in the pocket). They beat it out the windows, and probably not too long after he was awakened by a catfight in the yard. One of our cats had gone out the window and gotten into a fight with a stray. Brother, of course, found the window screen damaged, VCR gone and his pants were laying outside on the ground, minus the wallet. We wised up about leaving windows open on the first floor after that. The cops were no help, either. They suggested that maybe friends of his had done the job--as though somebody was going to drive in from the suburbs (all his friends lived outside the city) just to steal a lousy VCR and a few bucks--when there were plenty of suspects right on our street.

So yeah, very possible that someone could rob the place while the resident was there.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

Makes sense to me as well. If youre in a room, possibly have an AC, TV or fan on and you took allergy pills. Fuhgeddaboutit.

I had a friend who works night shift and was sleeping and got robbed in the middle of the day. They made off with her Xbox 360 and PS3 but mercifully missed her new Mac as her dog (who was locked in another part of the house) went insane and she called down to it to shush it up. That when she heard movement and went down to check...Thankfully they had gone by then.

I agree that it's easily plausible for him to have slept through a robbery. My first husband, without sleeping pills mind you, could sleep through anything. I've written on here before about resorting to waking him with a pan of ice water . . .

Many years ago, while I was still with the abusive SOB, we were robbed one night while we were asleep. I woke up when they opened the bedroom door. He did not stay long when he saw a shotgun in my hand. Too bad it was not loaded.

Before I started my university course last year I was a crime prevention officer for (location). Because of that role I made sure I read the details of every burglary on the patch.

It's entirely plausible for a burglar to enter a property & make very little noise doing so & to remove items without waking the occupant - it happens more often than people think. There are various methods that burglars use to gain entry - most don't involve breaking glass.
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.
