  • This... may not be good.

My coworker is a bit of a hypochondriac. Which, mostly, is fine. A little annoying when he's being particularly certain that he's going to die, but mostly fine.

Looks like his concerns might be premonitions.

He has swollen lymph nodes, no other symptoms, and infection has been ruled out. He goes in for a biopsy on Tuesday.

This might really suck. I hope it's something simple, easily-cured, and not cancer.

Well, if one should draw out a best/worst case scenario, this would be it:

Best case: Biopsy shows it's benign, it'll be allright.
Worst case: Biopsy shows it's malign, but it's caught early on and easy to fix, so it'll be allright.

Another theory states that this has already happened.

Thanks. He's exactly the right age for Hodgkins, so that's the big worry.

I used to work with a woman who was constantly looking for a physical reason to be on paid medical leave. Always complaining about one pain or another and always looking for a doctor who would place her on leave so she could be paid for not working. Then she developed some real symptoms and after several months of tests she was diagnosed with MS. Is now barely getting by on the disability she receives.

Found out some interesting info yesterday.

Although they ruled out infection via a CBC, they didn't actually do any specific tests for, oh, say, Mono. Just shunted him off to a specialist and said "here, you want answers, talk to him."

I'm still concerned, but starting to swing back towards thinking it's nothing. Coworker, of course, thinks he's going to die within the year.

Having had it, my first thought at the swollen nodes was Mono, so I re-read the post and saw "ruled out" rather than some less specific phrase like "isn't." Figured that was that infection-wise. Mono's nothing to be laughed at, but it beats a heck of a lot of the alternatives.
