        Thanks to you both!

Oh, and bhskittykatt... I granted your wish. I realized I'd forgotten an artwork, found an old picture I'd taken of it, and edited the thread and put it in at the end. Nothing special, just a big metal tree, but still...

Thank you, wonderful as always L9. You still have a great eye, but it looks like you've ratcheted your camera work up a notch or two this go-round as well. Superb. I really liked the leaves in the drain at the fountain base shot. And you are capturing buildings in a whole new way. The Battery Park Hotel is a great example.
Not quite agreeing with the Angel Statue buyers, as I really like 'Continuum' but it does need something. A good burnishing? The patina it is developing is kinda blah. Or maybe a better base? My pick of the sculpture is the modernist art deco piece (Pic labeled 'BlackFriday_19.)
And as always, I LOVE the brickwork and masonry piccies. Such a shame it's so rarely in the budgets to build that way anymore.
          Thanks again.

            Thanks, sms!

About Continuum... That rust was planned, and it seals the artwork off from the elements, as I understand it. It started out shiny, but it was designed to oxidize. The middle of Asheville is taken up by a big square and a park, and Continuum used to be further up toward the square. When the whole thing was redesigned a few years ago, Continuum got moved to the lawn of the DSS building. I don't remember the base it used to have, but I seem to recall it was a bed of pebbles, and I do remember that kids used to love to play on it. When they moved it and restored it, they found out that all those boisterous kids had damaged the artwork. And so now, kids can't play on it, and it's there on the lawn. I'm not sure if another sort of base would really make it pop out or not.

Yup, a lot of metal structures are made that way. Take a look at the roof of the Canada Parliament Building. That isn't green paint on there, it's copper that's oxidized and is now providing a barrier to prevent further oxidization.

Sorry. I should have phrased better. MEANT to say that the patina it is developing isn't very complementary. I know a lot of sculpture is intended to develop some of its final characteristics in situ. Maybe heavier iron oxides would have suited it better? And funny you should mention the stones L9; I was thinking a base of those Mexican black river rocks would be nice.

Also forgot to mention - absolutely LOVED the back of the piggly wiggley, and the alley mounted chair sculpture.

Thanks for your comments, as always!

Telecom -- I look forward to it.

sms -- I dunno what would have looked better, honestly. I'm just used to it the way it is, I guess. I do agree that another base, especially with the rocks you mentioned, would look better now that I think about it.

For what it's worth, my favorite artworks are the murals under the Interstate, the sculpture group of the dancers and musicians outside the civic center, and the little girl drinking from the water fountain.
