  • REALLY Stupid Ass Boss

So, I work for Glitter Hell for all things crafty and glittery. ( ESPECIALLY this time of year.)

As an incentive for selling overpriced crappy merchandise to our customers through our fairly new cso service we get our names put into a drawing when we get a sale, which has been in the past a $25 gift certificate.

This month, however, is different. Instead of a gift certificate the "lucky" winner will get a bicycle that the manager found in front of our store ( it had been there for a few days ) and then took and stashed said bike upstairs in the receiving/storage area where it has been for a few months instead of being turned over to our local police department, which by law is MANDATORY.

So, whoever may win said bike could end up with something that has not only been legally considered to be stolen by our manager, if said bike HAS been reported stolen with the police department it could end up with said winner, if discovered by rightful owner, in jail for possession of stolen merchandise.

I am SO sorely tempted to turn in this idiot to Corporate as well as our local PD for not only possession of stolen merchandise, but for possibly causing one of our innocent employees to possibly end up with a record for possession/receiving stolen merchandise....

Do it. Staying silent when witnessing a crime is not right.

Not to mention being hurt in a fight if the owner of said bike sees it and makes a claim on it. Whose to say the bike's serial number hasn't been REGISTERED with the local PD in case of it being stolen? Or the owner of said bike may have put a mark on the bike so that if it IS found they can determine the bike actually belonging to the owner?!?

With that said: *Good Job* Manager!!!

Report the idiot, and now. Not reporting a crime can be considered a crime in itself. Do it now!

Second this. Aside from the message being sent to employees ("You're not even worth a crummy gift certificate, just a secondhand something I picked up off the sidewalk") there is indeed the issue of it being possibly reported stolen, and that coming home to haunt whoever is the "lucky" winner.

Because I can't imagine the manager 'fessing up to being the one who picked it up and stashed it.

Do it. Whoever ends up with that bike could be in a lot of trouble, which will likely come back to the store.

And if the store has an anonymous ethics/report line, call it. from someone else's phone (with their permission) jic. Because it is very likely she will be keeping the $25 even though she plans to give out stolen property.

With the cost of some bicycles, the crime reaches into 'felony' level theft.

Worse, if you know about it and say nothing, technically you can wind up as some level of 'accessory' to the crime; being in trouble yourself.

Now, if manager ends up with felony theft on his record, on his own head be it. But some innocent employee? No.

                  3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
                  4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

Oh I certainly AM contacting the police as well as corporate, particularly after hearing that the boss had "supposedly" contacted the police and "supposedly" been told to keep the bike, that they had no time to come pick it up.

BULLSHIT! I worked for YEARS with the stolen property department of our police department and did call to find out if it might be possible that his claim was true. I was told that they couldn't come out and accuse someone of lying, BUT..... yeah, odds of 1 in a million he was told that.

                    Hope they hang the idiot.

Employee can't get in much trouble. Take a pic of manager handing it to them. Chances are its not missed if people didn't even ask. Might try talking to your manager first. He just may be ignorant to the laws .etc. In my experience going over managements head without mentioning something first creates a vindictive manager

I'm doubting "ignorance of the law" if the manager is lying about talking to the police in the first place.
