    Christmas songs you like

    Because we already have a thread of Christmas songs that must die, let's have one for those that we don't want to die. At least not right away.

    My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE christmas song is "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" by Gayla Peevy. Dont know why. It just is.

              For most songs I don't have a favorite version, although I like the old Mitch Miller versions of the first two:

              Silver Bells
              Twelve Days of Christmas
              Hark the Herald Angels Sing
              The Holly and the Ivy
              The Boar's Head Carol
              I Believe in Father Christmas (Emerson Lake & Palmer)
              At the Turning of the Year (Herdman, Hills & Mangsen)
              Do You Hear What I Hear?
              Deck the Halls
              Good King Wenceslas
              In the Bleak Midwinter
              Snow (Loreena McKennitt) -- more of a "winter" song than a Christmas one

              Also some instrumentals:
              Winter Solstice (Phil Thornton)
              While the Green Man Sleeps (Phil Thornton)
              Winter Moon (Rhonda Lorence)

              I'm sure there's more I can't remember right now. I know half of my favorites are on somebody's hate list!

                  Even though I'm not Christian by any means, my personal favourite carols are "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen". Carol Of The Bells is also good as long as it's done as a three-parter.

                      I love most of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's material. Also love most of the traditional Christmas songs ... if they're sung in a relatively traditional way.

                      Then we get to the weird stuff ... Christmas at Ground Zero (Weird Al), The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen, this and this ... among many others.

                        Love both of these. In fact, Straight no Chaser's version of 12 Days of Christmas is the only one I can stand.
