  • Where Should I Travel?

I would really appreciate any input the CSers here have to offer!

My long-term boyfriend and I have begun planning out our not-so-distant wedding, and my father has stated that, if we choose to elope, he would pay for a two-week trip to anywhere we wanted to go. It's gotten me thinking about where to go, and I wanted to ask the people here...

Where was your favourite place to travel? Your answer could be literally anywhere in the world. I'm purposefully not listing the places I've already been or my interests, because I love seeing what other people come up with!

I haven't done either but my top two travel dreams are the History of Rome Roman History Tour, though they're not taking reservations right now, and going from London to Vladivostok by rail.

      1. Great Britain. My biggest regret is I've only been there twice in my life, both times for 2 weeks. I would go back in a heartbeat. Don't care too much for London (too big, too noisy, too dirty -- but that's just me); however, York is gorgeous. Only managed to get to Edinburgh on one of those trips.

      2. Hungary/Serbia. Both are awesome places to visit. Yeah, there was still visible war damage in Serbia, but despite dire warnings about how much they "hate the West," we had no problems at all when we were there -- people were very friendly and helpful (it probably didn't hurt that we had hired a local guide/translator). Both countries have a lot of ancient history that's fascinating to see. Local food in both countries is excellent.

I'm fascinated by history and all those countries have a lot to offer to a history buff. I'm pretty sure GB also has some neat ghost tours, if you're into that sort of thing.

I wanted to go to Transylvania while we were in the neighbourhood -- so to speak -- but we didn't manage to get there, alas. Maybe next time ...

I loved my trip to Ireland. I'd love to go back and do all of the British Isles this time.

My senior year of high school, my friend, her parents and I went to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. I loved it. We stayed in an all-inclusive resort. It was about $1500 for the whole trip (plane tickets, resort stay, etc.) through the travel company we booked through. It was amazing.

When I win the lottery (cue laughter from the peanut gallery), I plan on going on the Orient Express.

And going to the Bahamas. Pretty sure I can visit without getting my skinny ass thrown in jail so long as I don't tell anyone I'm queer (it's kinda illegal to be gay in Jamaica). I do plan on moving to the French Virgin Isles (if only because I want to be known as That Annoying American).

Dream places (and real places I've been)

                Aussieland:

-Queenslandt: These two towns are brilliant in summer and contain a lot of entertainment for both adults and kids alike. If you like theme parks, there are around 4-5 of them: MovieWorld, SeaWorld (which has a resort attached to it), Wet n Wild Water World, DreamWorld and some other theme park that escapes me at this point. There's also a Hard Rock Cafe and the Great Barrier reef.

-South Australia: My hometown. If you want something fairly nice and quiet, Adelaide is perfect. We have a few attractions, as well as some really quaint little towns. Handhorf is definitely worth a visit, as is Coober Pedy and Tailem Bend.

-Victoria: the scenery is absolutely AMAZING here. Enough said.

                Not Australia:

Japan: OMG, I want to go so badly. And no, it's not just for the bright lights and peppy music. I want to look at the culture.

ETA: There's a place in Handhorf called "Cafe Assiette". Sounds kind of fancy right? Well, when you translate it into English, the name literally means "Coffee Plate".

It's clearly been way too long since we've talked, std, as I had no idea you were getting hitched! Congratulations and condolences!

Obviously I love Arizona, and would (and could) recommend many places there, but thinking a bit more out of the box, the first two places that come to my little mind are Ireland and Japan, for utterly different reasons. And for obvious reasons, Rio de Janiero.

Yes, I am in Japan for my holiday and biased...

                      Good places to go:
#1 Ireland. We went to Western Ireland on our honeymoon, and it was the #1 place for me. The people, the castles, the greenery, the sites - so romantic and people were the nicest folks I've met in some time.
#2 Grand Cayman Island - the beach is pure white sand and the water just can't get any bluer. If you are a beach person, this is the place for you (7 mile beach).

Cancun, Mexico was pretty nice when I was there, but that's getting darn close to 20 years ago.

San Antonio, TX was nice, but I was last there a decade ago.

And then there are the two big honeymoon spots near me: The Poconos, PA and Niagara Falls, NY/Canada.

The Pacific Northwest, particularly the coast, in the summer.

Venice. There is no place like it, really.

                          Paris.

Edinburgh. VERY friendly people. Come to think of it, all of Scotland would be a good idea, though I haven't seen the whole country yet.

I just had a couple of thoughts of two places that are quite magical, and quite different from one another.

San Francisco. I can't say enough about this city.

Cape Cod. It's Cape freakin' Cod.

Both places ooze awesomeness. And both are great for seafood, too!

Hawaii is gorgeous and the off-the-beaten path areas are awesome. Hell, even the tourist areas are awesome if you ignore the other tourists.
