  • Creepy SC

The bad part about working in a convenience store is that any nut bar can walk in off the street at any time of day. We have one particular SC that fits this category who comes in from time to time. (Thank goodness he's not a regular - I don't think I could put up with him that often.) Let's call him OSC (Old SC).

OSC came in on Saturday and immediately asked me about one of my (female) CWs. She wasn't working that day, but had come in to visit and buy food and was leaving that very moment. I haltingly told him that she wasn't working that day, but that she was currently leaving the store (since at that point I didn't think he seemed like a creepy stalker, just an old guy). Luckily, OSC didn't recognize my CW outside of her uniform, so she left the store without him bothering her.

OSC continued to ask me questions about my CW, such as when she works next (like hell I'm giving him her schedule!), and even going so far as to ask me for her number (NOT HAPPENING). He kept saying that my CW had ordered something for him, and he wanted to see if it had come in yet. Thinking this sounded like a relatively rational thing he could have done, I told him he could write her a note. He did so, making sure to write his cell-phone number on it. When I took the note to the office, my manager balled it up and threw it in the garbage, saying she wasn't giving any of my CWs a note from that weirdo.

I later messaged my CW and told her about what happened, and she said she had no idea who OSC was, and hadn't ordered anything for him.

I made sure to tell another night manager about this situation, since now I KNOW OSC is mentally unstable.

Smart decision. Skeevy creeps should never be encouraged to come back, if they're making people in the store (either employees or other customers) uncomfortable.

*shudders* Your CW has my deepest sympathy in having a creeper stalker like that...I get them too sometimes, usually old, like yours. You handled it perfectly, though. No need to put your CW in danger from someone like that. Also this:

The bad part about working in a convenience store is that any nut bar can walk in off the street at any time of day.
That is entirely too true, and one of the bigger downsides of working at a c-store. *shudders again* Hopefully OSC got the message. Either way, I'd still be on the lookout for him.

What sucks is that creepy customers like this take CW's politeness as flirting. Or as acceptance of their own creepy flirting. Heck, I've known a few SC's that took a CW's yelling and cursing at them as flirting.
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

Another CW had a stalker, and he actually called up on our corporate line to ask how to get in contact with her. While the corporate line didn't give him her info (thank goodness!), they pretty much encouraged him "not to give up", like it's some kind of romantic comedy or something. My CW wasn't amused.

Nothing like encouraging a creeper to create a hostile workplace!

Although, I do wonder how you know corp did this? Because the creeper would have taken anything up to and including "go away creep" as encouragement. Any chance corp just did the usual 'no, sorry, goodbye', and the creeper took that wrong? Calling corp for info is such an obvious creeper move that I hate to think they'd egg him on.

My CW told me. I'm not sure how she found out - maybe corporate had to make a note of it and send it to the store? All she told me was that they practically encouraged his behavior by giving him coupons.
