  • I don't need to tip. I work for God.

*MOD EDIT - Duplicate thread closed. (Original thread already in "Check it Out".) Moderators are aware of this thread. No need for further reports, thanks.

Because religious clergy shouldn't have to tip

A person claiming to be a pastor apparently tried to stiff a waiter on a tip, explaining that their work for God absolved them of having to leave one.

A photo of the receipt, posted to Reddit.com, shows a bill for $34.93 that included an automatic 18 percent gratuity ($6.29) above a blank space for an additional tip.

"I give God 10%," the diner wrote on the receipt, scratching out the automatic tip. "Why do you get 18?" The person then wrote "Pastor" above their signature, and an emphatic "0" where the additional tip would be.

What a tool. I'd have quoted Dolores Claiborne in my reply:

"Now, you listen to me, Mr. Grand High Poobah of Upper Buttcrack, I'm just about half-past give a shit with your fun and games. "

If any of you have ANYONE who does that:

1 Timothy 5:18: "For the workman is worthy of his pay".

Leviticus 19:13: "You shall not oppress your neighbor nor rob him. The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning."

There are a couple of others as well, but those will do.

        2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
        4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

This has been going around on Facebook and NotAlwaysRight for a few days now. I was glad to see it on Yahoo! this morning. Self-righteous asses like this need to be publicly humiliated at the least. (Any more will take us into fratching.)

Being a Fundamentalist Christian myself, I prefer to think that this kind of thing ties into the Great Commission of Matthew 28

If you are supposed to preach the Gospel, you want people to have open ears, which you negate by being an ass of this sort.

This is kind of similar to those who leave Bible tracts in lieu of tip. I have heard a few preachers say leave a REAL tip inside the tract.

The server in question has now lost her job, as while she didn't identify him (and the attempts of the interwebs to do so have been so far unsuccessful) he recognized himself after all the plublicity and complained to the restaurant, which fired her.

You mean she now has no incentive to withhold the name of this preacher?

I can't see how this could backfire on him at all.

So the guy not only gives zero additional tip, but doesn't pay the included gratuity (and if on the menu, that is legally part of the price of the meal),
meaning he eats there and skips out on a portion of his bill - and the restaurant wants him as a customer badly enough to fire the waitress when he complains?

                  Madness takes it's toll....

There's already a thread about this in Check It Out.
