Parker Malcolm!
Born yesterday, February 10th at 3:16 pm. He weighs in at 6lb 10oz, and is 20 1/4 inches long.
I'll try to keep the TMI to a minimum here.
After a restless night, where I slept a whopping 4 hours, my water broke at 6am on the dot, followed quickly by my first contraction. As a first time mom, I was expecting a long labor, but as you can see, it was barely more than 9 hours. I don't remember who said it, but I apparently made a record for speed for a birth attended by one of my helpers.
At about 11, my best friend and my doula both arrived, followed an hour later by my midwife and her assistant. It was only the doula's 2nd home birth, and she was really excited to be there. As for my BFF, after seeing how much help the doula was, she really likes the idea of using one herself. It was difficult to find a good position to labor in; both the birth ball and the bed made the contractions a lot harder to deal with. I threw up any time I had more than a couple of sips to drink. Standing was ok, sitting on the toilet was better, but what worked best was kneeling or reclining in our oversized jacuzzi tub with DH supporting me, though keeping me at a comfortable temperature was a challenge. I was hot one moment and shivering the next.
Parker was born perfect, though the cord was too short for him to eat while it was still attached, so we cut it a bit sooner than I would have preferred. Then I was bleeding a bit much for the midwife's peace of mind, so DH got to hold Parker while I got fussed over a bit. I'm pretty sure DH was bawling with the happy at this point!
Once everything was looking good, I made my way to bed to feed my darling little guy. He figured out what boobies are for really fast! After monitoring Parker and I for a couple hours to make sure his temp and heart rate were good, and to make certain I wasn't going to bleed too much, the birth team cleaned up and meandered out, while my BFF kindly got us dinner, then went off to her home.
You would think that after a busy day like that on 4 hours of sleep, going to bed would be easy, lol. Nope, I couldn't stop staring at him. Every time he'd shift a bit, mew, or sniffle, I'd suddenly be wide awake again.
So, that was my day, how was yours?
P.S. Pictures will have to wait til I feel energetic enough to climb the stairs to the computer, unless you want to go to Facebook. I can't figure out how to post pics here from my iPad.
