    Hi There!
Ivory Kitty had to go to the vet and get a toe cleaned out (long story). So this week I have to use newspaper instead of her normal clumpy litter. The first thing I noticed is that the NEWSPAPER DOES NOT SMELL. Really!
The cat litter I use is a clumping litter, grit a little smaller or equal to a bb. It has a small amount of perfume but I also put baking soda in there to help cover the odors. When I was removing the clumping litter today, so I could swap to the newspaper - the litter didn't smell good at all. It smelled like pee - but - it was kind of like that brand new.
So I'm asking now - I'm looking for a clumping cat litter that doesn't smell like anything. Newspaper has NO scent. Help?

Oh, her toe is still infected. She had a bandage on for a week with antibiotics, and now the bandage is removed and replaced by the Cone of Shame. Trying to air the toe out, go back to doc next week. Poor girl!

In my heart, in my soul, I'm a woman for rock & roll.
She's as fast as slugs on barbituates.

Kitty does not look pleased wearing the cone

I don't know if they carry it over in the US and while this isn't clumping, it still works wonders, why not look for Breeders choice? Doesn't smell and it's MADE from recycled paper.

Well, you could try Swheat Scoop... 's made of wheat. Really light- more or less like sawdust, and yes, it clumps. Can even flush it down the toilet, if you feel the need.

This smells a bit like pine (duh, it's made from it) but we used it the blazer for our cat on the move from Alaska to Nevada. You could not smell it or when she used it beyond the first 30 seconds. They also have a free after rebate to try it out.

I second Swheat Scoop- if it smells like anything, it's sort of...wheaty. It covers odors very well too as long as you change it out every 2 weeks or so.

Poor kitty. Hope she feels better soon!

I tried Feline Pine once. My cats didn't care for it because of the pellets it was in. I smashed some into sawdust for them though, and they loved that.

Never tried the Swheat Scoop, don't recall even ever seeing it around here. Small town, though, not all that surprising.

Ivory Kitty is a beautiful cat, if a bit disgusted with life in most of those pics.

I used it for bedding for my mice to keep the smell down, they loved it! mice were like , our entire cage is full of FOOD! It was cute, they'd wake up hungry and grab a pawful of bedding.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

When I had my cat, Scoop Away worked perfectly....rarely an issue with cat odor, even if you missed a few days of scooping.

Not look pleased? Hell, she looks downright pissed. "I am a cat. I do not wear the Cone of Shame."

Newspaper is sterile because of the ink. It makes a great surface to deliver a baby in the field. I've never tried it in the litter box, but it probably has to be changed out every day.

I've used Swheat Scoop, when I lived in an apartment and the only dumpster was on the other side of the complex. It works very well both for odor control and because it flushes. However, I can use it in the self cleaning litter box; have to use crystal litter for that. Swheat Scoop you still have to clean the litter box every day, or you should. My cats will refuse to use the litter box if there is too much waste in it, regardless of how it smells.

That's usually how I know to change the litter in Taz's box. The crystal litter controls the odor very well, but when it's too dirty for her, she leaves a deposit on my bathroom rug.

REminds me of our youngest boycat. When parents were away on holidays, one of the cats decided that jumping on the roof would be brilliant. They get back, and dad figures out how the cat is getting up there (jump onto dads car, jump in gap between gazebo and roof). So he nails a piece of board that goes the whole width of the car and puts the cat up there. Cat walks around, trying to figure out how to get past. He then gives dad a dirty look because he can't get up on the roof!

(Of course, he'd be crying when he actually got ON the roof!)

For our very first boycat, it was every few days (it's a pellet like substance) but with the two we have now, because they're very picky, it gets changed every day. (Very quickly too, mum just literally picks up the trays, dumps it into a garbage bag and then sprinkles new litter on their trays. We go through a 15L bag every 2 weeks or so)

Well, shit. She won't. I got "yesterday's news" with bits large enough to not get in her toe. I put old litter under that too to help her identify the stuff. She stepped in and jumped right out. I tried it straight. With baking soda also, to see if the smells bothered her. She will NOT go near it. She left a nice present for me to protest. I haven't seen her pee or WHERE she has. I asked the vet place and they suggested go back to old stuff and super wipe her foot. Another 'change' with all of this is that her cone is too big for her to get thru the cover of her cat box. It won't fit (the cone won't) through the opening.
Right now, her cat box has her old kind of litter in it, hopefully she'll decide that's good enough for her.
Besides her toe infection she might have kidney issues. That is another reason I'm worried about her going to the bathroom, I am not seeing much of it. We all know that's a possibility, so right now it's get through the toe stuff, back on Monday for another visit.

                        This it toe-tally frustrating.

I've had luck with ExquisiCat MultiCat Fresh Scent. It is a bit dusty to work with when pouring, so you'll want to be prepared for that, but as far as odor control, it almost works too good (like I've forgotten to clean the litter box because it still smelled fresh... until one of the cats leaves a present next to it as a protest) and my mom swears by ExquisiCat Naturals Fragrance-Free Pine and Corn. It is a bit more expensive, but it still clumps like traditional litter, does a pretty good job at controlling odor, is nearly completely dust free (my mother has major allergy problems with the dust from litter), and she claims lasts twice as long as traditional clay litter (which happens to be what the manufacture claims also, so I wonder how much of that is it really lasting that long and how much of that is selective memory because that's how long she's been told to expect it to last).

Re the renal problem - if she's got kidney problems she'll be weeing more rather than less. If so, she's probably found somewhere to go that you haven't found yet. One of my cats used to pee in the bath tub, right over the plug hole.

Have you tried just putting an old towel in the litter tray? That might work for her.

Ivory and I went to the vet today. Her toe is about 80% healed, still needs another week of antibiotics. Poor girl. And ergo, another week of Cone of Shame.
After trying a few of these litter stuff, just had to break down and put a very very thin layer of old school litter in her box. And, well, she left me presents. Solid ones, outside the cat box. She only peed once in the thing too. She would go to the cat box, sniff it, look at it and walk away.

I figured out it's really awkward for her to balance with the cone and lift her legs up. (it's kind of a tall bottom of a 'covered' cat box). I made a ramp for her, and she went right away. It's so awkward for her in general, she still does love bonks but whaps her cone against what she wants to love on. Door frame, my leg, etc. Purrrr WHONK "I meant to do that" Purrrr WHONK

Regarding her kidney stuff, I told the doc I can't see her going anywhere for pee. He told me she IS, but I can't see it, or smell it. Cat urine is normally really concentrated, so it's smelly. She's weeing more often, yes, but I can't find it with my nose. Let's hope she uses the cat box NOW with the ramp for her. (I built it with cans on the floor and shirts to make a ramp. Super high tech). Doc said the next checkup on Monday, will be decide to keep toe if it's healed OR amputate it. And also blood test for kidney stuff. She IS 10, so I can see kidney stuff happening at her age.

One more week and we'll have this figured out.
