  • Am I being ungrateful?

I had to quit at the burrito place due to dying business = no hours.
I was in a rut for over a month, and I found a few leads, and tonight started training at a Japanese restaurant.

But...the Japanese restaurant just stressed me out. It was 2 hours, slow, but I miss the carefree, laid back attitude of burrito place. I am trying to work at D. Bro coffee place, and also even applying for fast food...

but I should be happy. I should be glad. Employment opportunity! But...why am I not looking forward to coming in on the second day of training?

My plan is to keep looking since they only need part time, and honestly, if I do get into D. Bro, I'm out. Its not the fact that its fast speed that stresses me out, but I feel like a place I cannot laugh without feeling uncomfortable is kind of...I dunno.

I feel like I am being ungrateful...

The reality is that you won't always be bouncily looking forward to work. Its not ungrateful unless you show it in your demeanor and actions at work that you resent being there - which I don't think you do or would ever show.
I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi

There's nothing wrong in job hunting while you're employed.

although it is money, sometimes the job just isn't what you'd like.

I know I won't always be looking forward to work everyday, but this particular job already stressed me out...and I only trained two hours under a low-key enviroment, since it was a slow night.

I think its the management. I respect them, but the require a very strict sense, even for customer service. I don't feel comfortable SMILING while at work, or being outgoing...which a waitress normally is. I dunno. I'm going in today for lunch rush, by myself, as a test of what I learned...but before I go, I'mma go harass the coffee shop I applied for. Think begging will get me anywhere? XD

I don't think "ungrateful" even enters into it. They're not doing you a favor. This is a business transaction between you and the restaurant. You work; they pay you. That's an equal give-and-take.

It's hard going into a different, stricter environment. It takes time to get used to a new place, new bosses, new rules, etc. I don't see anything wrong with looking for something that's a better fit, but meanwhile you're employed, which can only help in your job search, as I hear that many employers now are "requiring" job applicants to already be employed somewhere...they don't want to hire people who aren't already working, which I think sucks, but it is what it is.

My thoughts exactly. Sometimes a job just isn't the right fit, for any number of reasons, which may or may not be easily articulated. If you can suck it up for the paycheck while you keep looking, that's not the worst thing in the world. Hope the coffee shop or something else works out for you.

I'm sucking it up. I got cheered up today when a group of workers from a Japanese-based company came in...
But 3 hours a day wouldn't cut it anyways..
