  • Gallon smashing

This apparently is the latest "funny" prank.

You get a gallon jug of something (all the examples I've seen involve milk), you smash it on the floor or against a wall or shelf, and then pretend to slip and fall in the resulting mess.

Anybody had this happen in their store yet? I'd like to think my store is safe, because we don't sell milk anymore, but we do sell distilled water in gallon jugs. I best be extra observant the next time the public schools have a half day.

I've seen videos of it. Supposedly the managers received a email from corporate with specific instructions on what to do. Some of our stores or other stores in the area have been hit.

Thanks to those assholes we're starting to see an increase of those display case coolers being locked. You want milk? You have to get a store employee who will page a manager and you get to wait for him or her to eventually meander over to the Dairy Aisle whenever they fucking feel like it.

I think what they need to do is to do away with the grocery store and replace it with a warehouse. You go to the kiosk or online, you select what you want, pay for it and it comes to you. No dickheads smashing food, no bastards taking out three pounds of chicken and then deciding that they don't want it and leave it in the cookie aisle to rot...none of that shit.

Then when people complain...tell them that they should have done some fucking parenting and actually raised their children to be something other than thoughtless douchewaffles.

Hell insted of doing that, do what one store here did...it's a drive through. You have to mark off a slip that look like the lotto ones, hand it to someone and then drive through while the guys grab your stuff and bag it. Pay at the other end and get handed your stuff.

My dad says he encountered a lot of smaller grocers in Moscow, Russia, like that. There's an order line where you fill out a slip, and another line to pick up your stuff. The employees do all the running around and fetching of items.

Don't most places like this have security cameras? My suggestion would be to put a security camera in that area (or at least in the store where there are no blind spots). Then when a "claim" happens, you can say, "Well, let's look at the tape..."

Are any of these idiots being prosecuted for destruction of property? Maybe a call to the police would help drive the "prank" home. What's next, jumping in front of cars in the parking lot and faking a back injury? Yeah, reeeaaalll funny until someone is seriously hurt or killed.

I was going to say, how do you know this is a kid prank? Slip and fall in milk once and everyone will be laughing at your stench for the rest of the day. Sounds more like an insurance scam to me.

That's actually a good point... mainly cos I've seen something similar happen in a "Sightings" thread.

IIRC the poster saw an adult moving a yellow caution placard and then purposefully slipping then acting like they were very injured. ... well until the poster told the manager to review the security tapes that is. The scammer looked very butthurt after that.

There are groceries that will do your shopping for you and will deliver it, but (a) they're generally not cheap, and (b) they are often, but always, "meant for" people who have problems doing the shopping themselves for medical/physical reasons.

I watched a collection of those videos on a famous youtube site. One video had a kid with a gallon of orange juice and a gallon of milk. He slammed both gallons to the ground and then "slipped and fell". It was very obvious it was no accident. The kid was a pretty poor actor I guess.

Oh about the time this stuff happened in my store there are very strict guidelines we have to follow for every slip and fall a customer has. There are FORMS THEY MUST FILL OUT. Even if they refuse health services (because they want to lie about it later) we have to observe their every move and report EVERYTHING about the incident DOWN TO THE TYPE OF SHOES THEY WERE WEARING. Every single little thing is documented and takes freaking FOREVER.

After that I betcha NOBODY would EVER slip and fall on purpose again.

Plus the store is so small that if someone were to try to smash a gallon of milk or damage it in any way I'd be able to hear it or see it. I can hear it from across the store when a half gallon falls forward in the cooler when someone opens the door.

Plus we're wired to the gills. We've got so many security cameras in our store I joke that it's like a casino in here. Nobody would be getting away with anything...
