  • Why you no understand English?

I had a short shift tonight and things had gone smoothly. Had one incident earlier in the shift but it was nothing to be upset about. Around 9:08 or so, I was walking about the counter when a SC walks up to me and starts chatting to me about a phone contract.

SC: So I have a question for you
Me: I have a possible answer for you (I started saying this as a response to those statements and it's always gotten a laugh or a smile from people.)
SC: If I have a basic phone, can I upgrade to an iPhone?
    Me: Of course
SC: Okay. Let's do that then

I wasn't aware she had wanted to do that TONIGHT because that isn't where the conversation had led.

Me: Our connection center is closed for the night. You'll have to come back tomorrow for your upgrade. It closes at nine
    SC: It's not even nine
    Me: Yes it is

She checks her watch while I check my phone. Both of which say 9:08. Not 8:50, not 8:55... exactly eight minutes AFTER nine o'clock. So what does she do? She begins to complain. So I tell her the hours and I even tell her where they are posted on the desk. She wants a manager. Fine. So I try paging for someone. (I did this three times for the same person and they didn't show. I didn't know the person had gone home and no one bothered to tell me either. WHOOPS!)

So I go in the back to see if I can find someone and when I come back out, I find out that apparently we have someone coming. Supposedly. The customer begins to complain about her wait so I explain to her that if the manager is busy with something, he can't just come out right away.

    And then this comment...

SC: So, what you're saying is that I'm not a value customer?
    Me: I never said that
    SC: That's what I heard

OF COURSE THAT'S WHAT YOU HEARD YOU STUCK UP GUTTER SLUT! So I say that I'll try to find someone.

I walk up front and knock on the store manager's office. No one is there. Fucking PERFECT. I turn to go searching when I see an assistant wandering by. Hmmmm... you'd think after so long of PAGING FOR A MANAGER that he would have at least called back to the department or, I don't know, SHOW THE FUCK UP! But like I said, if the manager is busy at the moment, he's not going to be able to hop to and deal with the other situation right away.

So I explain to him what was going on and he started ARGUING with me. Ugh. I really hate it when people do this and I KNOW for a fact I'm right. It fucking annoys the shit out of me. I tell him that I told the lady what time our connection center closes and tell him that the times have been posted since before I started working in that area... almost two fucking years ago! And he continues arguing with me all the way back.

Finally it's about time to clock out so I say 'fuck this' and clock out. As I come back out because I needed to get an adapter for my iPod charge cord, I come to find out from another associate that said manager was planning on getting the contract done anyway EVEN THOUGH it was NINE THIRTY by then. Dude, seriously? You wouldn't let someone go shopping in the store after closing time. And I never once raised my voice to this lady either.

I hate sucky customers. I really do. What I hate even more about them is the fact they will twist your own words to put themselves in the right and make you look like the bad guy. This thread could probably tie in with morons in management as well but fuck it.

Side note: I recently had a death in the family so I was not myself tonight but I was trying to keep myself busy so I didn't have to think about it. It would have worked.... had THAT not happened.

I'm really sorry about your family... I understand... I just lost my grandpa about a month ago. Do you get any kind of bereavement leave?

And that lady can suck it. What a bitch!

Ugh, another EW. "I'm here now so you have to serve me!" What's the point of having opening and closing times if management is going to ignore that?
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

When I read the title my first thought was, "I understand English just fine. It's Stupid that I don't understand..."

I came to the conclusion years ago that managers exist to give us a decoy to toss to customers to get them off my case. Sometimes that decoy sides with the customer and grants them the magic abilities they want to claim. Sometimes the decoy goes all splody on the customer.. but that's the job of a decoy. As long as it doesn't involve me any more, then the decoy can do whatever it wants.

        Sorry for your loss, TechieGirl87.
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

They do that to try to throw you off and put you on the defensive. I've finally learned that I don't need to defend myself to anyone (unless, of course, it's in a court of law), and that if someone attacks me, it's their problem, and I'm not going to engage in it. So, when someone tries to trip you like that, just repeat that the place closes at 9.
