  • Terrible People and Twilight Zone-esque Sightings

I walk dogs for some side-cash and have been running into things while doing so. Basically, I let them pile up so I can make one post. Here goes...

    Sucky Dog Owners

As many know, most dogs bark when another dog walks by their house/property. That is normal. This is not. I was walking a dog who I will call Tank down a side street. As we passed one house, an old man in his backyard stopped what he was doing to stare at me. I waved to be polite.

OM: Hey look! Look! Is that a girl and a dog? What are they doing? Go get them! Go get that dog!

Cue 4, count 'em, 4 pugs racing top speed to the gate barking all the way. When they get to the fence, they start biting the fence and climing on top of each other to bite the fence. Then, thet start BITING EACH OTHER, snapping, growling, all-out fighting! I'm horrified seeing these dogs mauling each other. What's the owner doing? Smiling and praising them for scaring away the mean girl with her doggie.

    Twilight Zone Weirdness

So I'm walking down the street and Tank stops to sniff a bush. I stop with him thinking he has to pee. He doesn't. He just sniffs. Thinking there's food or something there, I pull him back to see what he's smelling....It's a bird....a dead bird. I've seen dead birds before, usually upside down in the grass or something. This one died sitting up in a bush. I was so creeped out. It looked like a taxadermy creation but grosser.....

    Sucky Dog Owners Pt. 2

Walking down the street as usual. Across from us, I see a beautiful German Shepherd who looks about 2; young but full-grown. Like many pups, he spotted another dog and tugged a bit like "hey it's a dog! I wanna say hi"! Instead of acting like a good dog owner and correcting the behavior with a tug back or a "no" followed by a cheerful "dogname come!" she started hitting him with the retractable leash and yelling at him.

B: See, this is why I never take you for walks! Every time you act like this! Every time! That's it! We're going home! Right now!!!

Seriously? Shepherds are hearding dogs. If you never exercise him, it's no wonder he pulls when he's walked! He's like "WAHOO!! A WALK!! I LOVE THIS! I NEVER GET TO GO ON WALKS!"

    Twilight Zone Pt. 2

The day after the bird sighting, Tank stopped to sniff a furry lump on a lawn. It was a dead squirrel. Now the road-kill I'm used to seeing, but a whole corpse. Honestly, it looked like it was crawling across the lawn and just died. Once again, super creepy.

    Twilight Zone Pt. 3

Once again, walking down a street. I walk Tank mid-day when kids are in school and adults are at work so I rarely encounter people save for the occasional college student or retiree so I was naturally shocked to hear a child call out to me.

    Kid: Hello!
I turn around and see this boy no older than 4 standing on the sidewalk. I look around trying to spot the parents/relatives/babysitter/whatever and see nobody. No open doors, no cars, nothing. The street is vacant and silent.
Me: Hi...where are your parents sweetie?
The kid just looks at me. Tank, not realizing I'd stopped gives me a hard yank forward so I turn back to him and tell him to wait, come, sit. I turn back to the boy and he's gone. I walked up and down that street several times hoping to see him in a backyard or something but I couldn't find him again. Needless to say, it scared the crap out of me.

    Twilight Zone Pt. 4

Walking, as usual, down the street when I see Tank's ears perk up. I raise my head to see what got his attention and I see a woman, about 35 walking a bike. "But Kisa, that's not odd" you may say. Well, she wasn't walking it in the typical way, holding on to the handlebars and wheeling it down the sidewalk. It was a small, pink, child's bike that she was walking on a leash...a dog leash... She had tied the leash just below the handlebars and was walking it. The bike toppled over several times, but she just righted it and kept on going. No clue why...gave me the chills

Consider, if you will, a dog walker doing their usual job. But today Kisa is going to have some odd encounters. For Kisa has stepped straight into... The Twilight Zone.
Low lie the Fields of Athenry/ Where once we watched the small free birds fly/ Our love was on the wing/ we had dreams and songs to sing/ It's so lonely around the Fields of Athenry

I was trying to think of a properly relevant response but you nailed it.

The disappearing toddler was the one that creeped me out the most.

Me, too. The bike lady is just "special".
"Is it hot in here to you? It's very warm, isn't it?"--Nero, probably

I'm torn between Disappearing Child and Perched Dead Bird. Both are super-strange.
I feel so bad for the German Shepard. You sound like you know what you're doing Kisa, but that woman is going about it SO badly! Full sentences, really? Sad. As a bicyclist, I overhear people chastising their dogs all the time for barking as I go past and always think to myself "Uhm, thedog is DOING IT RIGHT!" They're alerting the pack to something moving at speed near them. They'll (usually) stop when I'm gone. But if you have to take corrective action over Nature, single words and non-hurtful physical action are the way to go.
