  • Just had a visit from the cops

So at least one guy was prowling our apartment parking lot breaking into cars and stealing stereos and other valuables. I was sitting in my living room, lights on, earphones on and watching Netflix while hubs was asleep. The knocking at the door woke him up but I didn't hear it (my earphones are REALLY good and noise-canceling).

Whoever it was had, for some reason (maybe because he saw my lights? which really terrifies me, to be honest) climbed up the stairs to our front balcony and left his GUN there.

Cops searched our apartment to see if we were hiding him or something. In the meantime someone was coming up towards either our apartment or the one next door...I didn't see the action but the cops had him down and arrested him outside our door. Dunno if he was just unlucky or if he was actually the criminal coming to retrieve his gun.

And now if I peek out my back window I can see about seven cop cars and they just arrested another guy. So either there was more than one, or someone was coming home late and happened to look suspicious enough to the cops.

Freaking out quite a bit here. We're okay and our car wasn't broken into (yay for factory stereo in a boring car that no one cares about) but I'm very shaken knowing someone was outside our door with a gun, and that someone was arrested at gunpoint out there.

That had to be scary. Hope you can get a few answers soon and that all goes back to normal!

That is very scary. I'm glad you and your hubs are safe! Hopefully they nabbed the guy they're looking for!

All the cops had cleared out about an hour ago so I went to take a bath and read to calm down a bit. Got out and they're all back with flashing lights on so I have no idea what's going on now. And hubs said there was a fire truck and ambulance out front while I was in the bath. I dunno if someone got hurt or what, or if the cops are back to take statements and reports for people who had their cars broken into...blah. And I'm not about to go poke my nose outside and ask. I guess I'll keep an eye on the news because I'm sure it'll get mentioned with this kind of police and emergency presence.

That's just scary ... hope they got the guy(s) and that the neighbourhood can relax now.

I checked out the arrest records from yesterday and found the name of one of the guys. It was a team, him and his cousin, both were arrested, one outside my door and one I witnessed out back cuffed over the hood of the police car. His cousin was in their car (which I witnessed get towed after the cops finally cleared out) pointing out cars he thought they should hit. And the guy whose name I got is also a sex offender who failed to register.

Lovely, an armed sex offender outside my door at 4 in the morning...I'm not as anxious as I was last night when it was happening but it's still an awful thought.

I'd be freaking out, as I live alone.

This is EXACTLY why I do not have any form of "noise cancelling" earphones, call me paranoid, but I prefer to not be 100% oblivious to my surroundings, that's how bad things happen. When my "adopted brother's" trailer burned(no he did not make it out), his neighbours HEARD the fire crackling before they saw or smelled it, if their hearing had been compromised or damaged from high volumes, three other trailers would've likely burned as well.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Wow, that is scary. I'm glad you're OK.

I get the headphones. When I was still living in an apartment, I used them after 9pm out of consideration for my neighbors.

Crime in my apartment complex is actually what drove me to move more than once.

I feel the same way as Katt. Though I prefer to fall asleep watching TV on my evenings off, it's at a low volume and I have the window open if it's warm enough.

Though, I'm such a light sleeper, all it takes is one of the purr boxes hopping onto my bed and I'm up.
