  • A mass forward has never made me so angry

About a year ago, some friends of mine went through an extremely hard time in their life as they lost a child. I ended up emailing someone from a forum who is a mutual friend with them about what we can do to help. She ended up using the email addresses she collected from this to gossip about my friends in the name of helping them.

Now, almost a year later and no contact in between, she used these email addresses to mass forward crap. I got the email Tuesday night and it was about a serious hot button issue (that I will leave out to avoid Fratching). Let's just say, I couldn't disagree with her more and the manipulatively worded appeal to sign her petition made me see red. My reply was not nice. It was essentially, "Take me off your list. I don't know you. I don't appreciate random mass forwards. And I don't think <insert her position on hotbutton topic>."

It felt weird. I'm usually much more diplomatic than that, so I questioned myself for a while afterward. I just have no patience with her.

I got so tired of people sending me stupid email forwards that on one of my accounts I set up an "auto respond" template. That way, when an email came in from this particular person (who only included me in forwards, and didn't have actual communication with me), not only would the email get deleted, but they'd get an auto response listing off numerous reasons (I think there were 17 all together) why I didn't want to be forwarded emails.

My partner often gets emails from his mother that are very political...but his whole family is on the other end of the spectrum from us, and they know it. She continually sends him mass forwards like that in hopes of converting him to their cause, but all it does is infuriate him every time.

This is why I tend to ignore my email so often.

Ugh, I hate that. I used to get emails from a cousin, many of which were harmless, "thinking of you" things full of glittery fairys and stuff, but some of them were of a different variety, leaning the opposite of my politics, and worst of all were the ones that including some stupid rumor that 2 minutes on Snopes would have proven untrue. I replied with the Snopes link so many times that when the emails stopped I thought I must have pissed her off.

Apparently that's not the case but so far no more crazy emails

Oh god...I don't get those in emails, but I see it from Facebook friends all the time.

"ERMAHGERD! Someone posted this so it must be TRUE! I MUST SHARE THIS!!!"

I've taken to posting "google.com, look up (topic) snopes. Took me 20 seconds to disprove yet another stupid post. Captain Awareness, AWAY!" or something similar every time, but the same people keep doing it. These are the same people who like and share posts from all those accounts claiming to be giving away free Kindles and iPads, and I despise them all for it.

Even worse are the political people on Facebook...I have one who constantly posts Bible quotes. Another who posts abortion stuff 10-15 times a day. Hey, support/believe what you want, but if you send the stuff to me (they both tag as many people as FB will allow, and my name is near the top of the list alphabetically) I will simply start muting your posts...

My mother got herself into hot water with one of those mass forwards. It was a rant about <people>. My sister replied back "you do realize that your son in law is <people>, making your grandsons half <people>". It took a long time before my sister was willing to even contemplate forgiving her for that.

My best friend's mum posts controversial stuff all over facebook, and then whines about how stressful it is that she's being attacked for holding the 'right' opinion.

Just FYI-Some of those require the person "entering*" the contest to aprove giving them access to not only the entrant's information, but those of their friends and contacts on FB, I've unfriended people over that.
