  • Mobile phone recommendations?

So I am now in need of a new mobile phone. Due to the issues I had with my HTC, I am reconsidering going for a HTC. I also won't be going for an iPhone since I am a klutz

So can anyone else recommend anything worthwhile? I only want information about the phone, not the carrier, since I'll be relying on a prepaid one.

Out of curiosity...which HTC phone? I am having to get rid of my HTC Desire because....well....it overheats to the point that you cannot touch the phone because it is so hot. It also now has red pixels in the shape of where my fingers are, due to the heat from them burning up the pixels.

I have a Motorola Droid Razr, and I've noticed overheating too. Not as bad as Mrs. Crossbow (her's can overheat to the point of shutdown), but still more than I'd like. Also, I can kill the battery with Twitter in about 2 hours...

I have a Galaxy Note, which I absolutely love. Yes, it's quite a bit larger than most mobile phones, but it's pretty awesome.

The camera on it is better than my actual camera (a Nikon), it has most of the same apps that you can get on an iPhone, and, unlike the iPhone, it doesn't rely on one specific program if you want to upload music and stuff to the phone. Also, again unlike the iPhone, the charger cable for it is not so specific to the phone that it's impossible to find a replacement. Almost any micro-USB plug will work.

There are a few downsides to it, though. For one, the default ringtones are (in my opinion, at least, and it could just be because my ears are sensitive to such things) headache-inducingly high-pitched and beepy. Also, depending on how you set yours up, the app updates absolutely kill the battery.

Yep, mine overheats to the point of shutting itself down constantly.

I changed my ringtone to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYtSNrDdUTA Because it really DOES go with everything.

I'm looking to move into a Galaxy S4, and I've heard a lot of good things about them. I just cannot justify spending $300 on a phone at the moment.

I have an iPhone and love it. If you have a good quality case, then you're not likely to damage the screen if you drop it. I've dropped my several times and it has done fine.

If cost is a factor, I'd recommend a used one. Prices are going down on the 3S, 4, and 4S in anticipation of the next iPhone due to come out.

At this stage, the iPhone IS on my "consider" list, although I'm a little concerned about how much data it eats through. I wouldn't be using it to substitute for my iPod or iPad though. There are a couple of places that have used ones: EB Games down here sells refurbished ones (as in it has been used, but they completely wipe it from scratch and I'm presuming put brand new batteries and whatnot in them) that are linked to the carrier that I WANT to go through...they're about $250-$300 although I'll be adding an extra $30 to it (brand new SIM card + initial credit). Cash Converters sells them for around $320 and up. As for cases, the big draw at the moment is on the iPhone 4/4S because of the iPhone 5.

The problem with my HTC was a minor overheating problem coupled with the fact that a number if the apps did NOT work with my phone. It was a wildfire btw. It also tended to lock up whenever I had a phone call.

Has anyone used a Sony Xperia?

ETA: Will probably be asking the boyfriend when he gets home, but his company (ISP) also have SIM-only packages. It looks like they're month-to-month setups with included calls and text in them. Looks like it's a capped plan, but I'll ask him more when I get home. If I go through EB, their unlocked phones are the same price.

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S4 and I love it. I had the S2 before and it was good as well. The S4 is big, but feels comfortable to hold and has some amazing features and a great camera as well. The battery life is superb. <3

I might pass this one onto my boyfriend. He has a Galaxy SII at the moment which is currently on the fritz. We suspect that it's because of two things:

                    1) he doesn't clean house on his apps-so he might download one app every now and then and never use it after that.
                    2) he doesn't turn off the 3G. While he's on a capped plan (similar to what I'm going on, but my plan will be month-by-month with no contract, his is a 2-year contract), he still doesn't turn it off, meaning the phone has to be recharged overnight. >.<
But on top of that, it means that its constantly downloading updates.

As for me, I did some careful research into the phone and debated over what I need vs what I want. Eventually I decided that I'm going to go for an iPhone 4/4S. There's ONE place that sells them refurbished (as in they test them, replace the parts that need fixing and reset them completely) for a fairly cheap/decent price so that'll most likely be the place that I'll go. They're also the only place I can find that sells them completely unlocked: everywhere else is linked to a carrier or has the iPhone 5. (and the carrier I'm going through does NOT do the iPhone on a plan)

The reason why I'm going for the iPhone is:

                    1) Based on my parents and sister (all of which have iPhone 4/4S) they've found answering calls fairly easy. I had trouble with my last phone where if I had the screen lock on, I couldn't answer immediately because the screen lock drove me nuts.
                    2) While this won't happen, in case of emergency, I can use iMessage to contact my parents/sister.
                    3) I already have an iPad so I'm aware of how various apps function and the iPhone is becoming the more "accepted" smartphone of choice.
                    4) It's easier to find accessories for it than it is to find accessories for the other phones.

I also plan on getting a case for it (pimp it out and all that) along with making my own mobile phone sock for it. (seriously easy to do: get a long sock, cut it off above the heel and stitch up the bottom. I'm going to double layer it)

I have the Galaxy SIII, and couldn't be happier. It's not perfect--what is?--and I'm not gonna be like some people and claim something ridiculous like "OMG IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!!" because that's just fucking stupid. But the SIII is pretty sweet, and does pretty much what I want and need it to, from calling to texting to checking sports scores to facebooking to playing Angry Birds, etc, etc.
