  • What You're Asking Me To Do Is Illegal!

So, according to this lady, she should be on this business account.

Well, of course, she isn't. But she swears up and down she should be.

SC: But I want statements on the account.
Me: Due to privacy reasons, I cannot give you statements, as you are not on the account.
SC: But I'm supposed to be on the account! I came to your branch and got added.
Me: Do you know who you spoke with?
SC: No, it was a girl, and I spoke to a gentleman as well.
Me: I'm sorry, I cannot give you anything without some type of proof you should be on the account.
SC: Well, I'm going to talk to your corporate number and get this fixed. I just don't understand why YOU can't give me this information!
Me: Because I would lose my job and possibly be escorted out of here in handcuffs for breaching security. No thank you.
SC: Well, you were NO help. I hope you lose your job over this!
Me: (Thinking: Well, that would get rid of the stress in my life.)

    And she storms out.

It was nice of her to tell me she was going to get me fired at least.

If only it worked to go into a bank and insist to be on an account without having any proof. "Yes, I SWEAR that me and Bill Gates are business partners! Are you calling me a liar?!?! I insist to be on his account or else I'll have you FIRED!"

SC: Well, I'm going to talk to your corporate number and get this fixed....
"Okay... I will contact them and tell them to expect your call."

      Calling their bluff sometimes works...

"My mom said I could rent that!"
"Oh... well, I have to ask her."

Oh god or the ones where when we started the account we asked the person, Do you have anyone else you want added to the account, No, oh well okay.

Then later when person's significant other calls they feel it is our fault they aren't on the account.

It's funny how people just don't seem to care if what they are asking you to do is illegal or not. Do people honestly think that we can do illegal things and not get in trouble for it just because we did what they wanted?

I've gotten this before in the pharmacy. It happens a lot when people come in to request a Medical Expense Summary report. This is a report that lists all the medications a personn recieved from our pharmacy and their out-of-pocket costs for each one. It's common for people to request these this time of year for tax reasons, etc.

Here's where the trouble starts. You are only allowed to obtain the report for yourself and any minor children you have. Because of HIPPA law, we cannot release the report of anyone else to you. It is not uncommon for a customer to ask us for their spouse's report as well. Due to HIPPA, we cannot give them this report. Thier spouse must personally request the report and pick it up themselves.

For some reason, people just don't seem to care that I would be committing a federal crime if I give them that information. I had one guy say that he is the man of the house and he pays the bills, therefore he is entitled to the information. I've had other people get mad as well for different reasons, acting as if the federal laws shouldn't apply to them just because it's inconvenient. One guy claimed he was on his way to his accountant's office to drop off his tax documents and didn't have time to wait for his wife to get it. I told him sorry, but it's the law and there is nothing I can do. The only way we can release that information to a third party is if they have a court order.

Not only would it be a HIPPA violation to give this out, but it could also open the pharmacy up to a civil suit from the spouse whose information we gave out. You never know why they really want the information. It could be innocent like filing taxes. But for all we know they could be in the middle of a messy divorce and the other spouse wants the information to use against them in court.

The divorce one is the greatest. I had a customer tell me he wanted his future ex's statements so he could prove that she made enough money so he wouldn't have to pay child support. I explained to him nicely that I couldn't do this.

He got angry and started screaming, I told him I was about two seconds away from calling to police, he left. That got him out real quick.

I think management will laugh at the SC demanding you to illegally divulge information about account(s) they're not listed as being authorized on. Unless they're joint account holders (for financial institutions) or listed as authorized users or faxed in a POA and/or living will, then access denied.

My favorite line "I want to speak to the manager!"

I generally spin my chair around and then go "Hi, I'm the manager"

A few years ago, DH was in Alaska for an extended period of time, and I was taking care of all the bills that came in until he got back, including his personal stuff. I got something about a loan on his life insurance, and called to ask about paying it off. Of course, the SCR quoted privacy laws, and I then started to say, "well can you tell me....no, of course you can't! Never mind. OK, thanks! I'll have him call about it." I think I shocked the stuffing out of her since I did not get all upset and yell and go SC on her.

How do her health statements prove how much money she makes?
And why does how much money she makes make a difference in his obligation to support their children?

Bank statements, people think that since they can see how much someone's direct deposit is, it'll prove that they don't need to pay child support...

Why someone wouldn't want to support their children is beyond my means on thinking? Makes my head want to pop.

I won't take this into fratching territory, but I think a lot of the time child support goes unpaid because one parent hates the other and is punishing them by withholding support or because they feel the parent receiving the support isn't spending it properly or because they don't agree with the amount of support they have to pay or believe they shouldn't have to pay any support at all.

Child support is a very complex thing.
