Anyone else have experience with these, or any optometrists in the building?

I'm overdue for new glasses anyways, but something that has been bothering me greatly for just the past day is a stupid floater that has appeared in my left eye. Its only a few degrees off axis, so its almost but not quite in dead center of my vision, meaning its very distracting. Its definitely mobile, since when I move my eyes it changes position, and then slowly drifts downwards. Only shows up on light backgrounds, such as looking at the sky or at a computer screen that is mostly white.

I need a new eye exam and my lenses on my current glasses are getting a little scratched up, so I figure its good timing.

Is this something that can show up in an eye exam for glasses, or would that be a waste of time for an average Lenscrafters store in the mall to handle? Would more of a specialist be required to take a look at it or give a useful opinion on it?

I certainly do want to bring up the topic, but at the same time it might sort itself out on its own and if there's no need for anything drastic I certainly don't want to do anything drastic. The human eye and brain are amazing things, and you don't notice all of the imperfections of the eye due to all of the post processing your brain does without you even noticing it. This is why magic tricks work so well. They exploit the post processing your brain does with the raw image. Problem is that for something that is moving around a little bit your brain can never quite fully adjust to it to filter it out.

I really hope there doesn't need to be anything, ugh, invasive, for that would be horrendous. Assuming it doesn't sort itself out on its own, is there anything that can be done with lasers to just zap it?

Its only been happening for the past day so I'm hopefully things will just be taken care of on their own. Haven't had any other problems with my eyes, no headaches or anything. I'm already starting to filter it out, so its becoming less of an annoyance even after only a day.

I will be getting an eye exam in the next week or so anyways, and this just sort of spurred it on. Plus I got a coupon for $100 off! Just curious about the eye floater thing, thats all.

I have floaters! Lenscrafters can/will see them, and tell you that they're harmless. Just annoying.

I asked years ago, and I don't remember about surgery options.
What if Humans are just Dire Halflings?

Floaters are harmless, though annoying- it's a darkening of bits of the vitreous humor, generally caused by aging. I have no idea what could be done to remove them, short of some REALLY major surgery.

Figured as much. Probably they'd take a look at my eyes, tell me the floater will take care of itself, then ask me if I want new frames for my new glasses or to keep the old frame.

Already its become less noticeable even since the OP.

Probably just got myself all worried over nothing.

        Thanks though!
