  • I love The Hampton!

So, in several of my recent forays up to the mainland, I have stayed in a Hampton. As I recall, three so far (Fort Lauderdale twice, Deerfield Beach, and West Palm). Every single time, not only did I feel like a "real adult" at a "real hotel," as opposed to some of the cheapo ones I've stayed at, but EVERY SINGLE TIME the service was top notch, and EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE was as well. Friendly, professional, helpful, beyond just normal good service. I don't know who's hiring or training these people, but they are picking the right people and training them the best way. It's to the point where I am becoming brand loyal, even though the Hampton is certainly more expensive than a bargain hotel. But oh so worth it.

Now, to be fair and balanced, let me list all the things I have not liked at my various stays at a Hampton:

    1. The complimentary breakfast buffet at the Fort Lauderdale Hampton sucks.

    And...that's it.

I mention this because earlier tonight I got off the phone with yet another Hampton I'll be staying at, and not only did they answer my two simple questions quickly and professionally, the guy I talked to seemed to actually be looking forward to my arrival, even though he has no idea who I am and may not even deal with me at all during my stay. These people truly make me feel like I'm at home.

Honestly, if I did not have multiple places to stay when I went home to Phoenix, I would stay at a Hampton when I was there. And when I go to Houston in June, if I can swing it and there's one in the right area, I will probably stay at a Hampton yet again.

I just wanted to come on and spread the Hampton love around. And wonder if anyone else feels the same--or indeed, differently--about this particular hotel chain. Or if there are any other chains that y'all love as much as I love the Hampton.

    That is all. Lovefest over.

I've stayed there and it was nice. The person who checked me in got me a discount I didn't know about, I think something to do with AAA. It was in Madison, WI.

Hampton Inns are nice, we have 'memberships' at HHonors as well as Choice [they have Suburban and MainStay extended stay motels with kitchens] and this past road trip the only 2 places we stayed that weren't either chain were the Atlantis casino and that little place on Key West.

Watch out, the breakfast at the Hampton in Orlando on John Young isn't the greatest. Service is great but the food isn't. All they had was the prefab denver omelets so if you don't like peppers in your eggs you are hosed. Many of the other Hamptons have the neutral round egg pucks like in an egg mcmuffin so you can sort of make an imitation one. They all tend to have pretty decent coffee though.

Next trip down we might stay at one of the Disney or Universal resorts and take a couple days, I haven't been to Disney since I was there right after they opened, it will be interesting to see what has changed. And we want a few more days in KW - we spotted a few places we wanted to try the food at and go back for more sushi since that place is right next to the motel we liked.

ooooh.. I stayed at the Hampton in Vancouver last year. It was fantastic! Beautiful room, great service and the breakfast wasn't terrible... just the ignorant tourists who were trying to make a scene about something or other (don't remember exactly what, I was in my happy place)

Although the breakfast buffet at the Fort Lauderdale Hampton is truly woeful, I have to give props to the West Palm Hampton for an amazing happy hour.

My friend and I arrived there around that time, with the intent of parking my truck, getting some booze, some food, and some booze, and then taking a cab to the concert, where we would booze some more, and afterwards, maybe hit a bar.

How delighted were we upon check in to find that the WP Hampton had a lobby happy hour, where they had some (very decent) munchies, and (my two favorite words) FREE BEER. So while we were still settling in, we were already getting lubed up. And then the wonderful desk people suggested a great sports bar nearby for our pre-concert chow and drinking, and we had a blast.

I've stayed at 3 Hamptons total, for 4 visits, and every one was fantastic, with the singular exception of the aforementioned breakfast buffet (which wasn't any better on our second trip to that one a year later, I'm sorry to say). But since no one is perfect, I can overlook this one piddling detail to give Hampton some of my highest approval ratings. And the one in Miami looks like it is just going to add to the legend.

Here is the list of other hotel chains that have ever warranted a glowing review from me as a chain (not counting stand alone hotels or single hotels within a chain that exceeded the others in their chain):

Yep, that about says it all, don't ya think?

Jester, you may have literally stayed at the Hampton that's a stone's throw away from me at work! LOL!

I agree, the last few times I've had to do business with the Hampton chain, they've all been pleasant experiences. More than I can say for some of the "fancier digs" in town.

Glad your visit to my part of the world was a good experience!

It certainly was, and not just because of the Hampton, but because of a great concert at Cruzan Amphitheatre, fun at a couple of bars in that area, including the sports bar right by the Hampton, and an enjoyable little time on Climatis, where I found my second World of Beer, as well as Reef Road rum bar. As I said....lots of fun!

                    It's not always about size.

That being said, I like Hampton INNS. I have no opinion on The Hamptons in New York, nor do I have any opinion on people named Hampton, as I have never met any that come to mind.

I think that about covers it, don't you?

You forgot about Hampton Roads, VA. A famous battle happened there.

Update: the Hampton in downtown Miami is freakin' gorgeous! And as always, the employees are ridiculously friendly and helpful. Currently eating at a pretty decent sushi place the Hampton bartender recommended. While this place is not an OMG! GOTTA EAT THERE! place, it is good, and more importantly, that same bartender steered me away from a bar I had seen that looked cool, but she said it wasn't at all good...without actually coming out and saying it.

Yeah, the Hampton rocks. It's just that simple.

UPDATE: Okay, this is officially the nicest Hampton I've been in. And you already know I love the Hampton. In addition to having great staff, and being just gorgeous, this is what I encountered upon entering my room tonight (when I checked in I just tossed my stuff in and bolted, so didn't really stay here for more than a moment):

I saw the message light on the phone blinking.

                            Oooookay....

So I hit the button for messages. And I had TWO messages.

                            Seriously..... wtf:

First message was a pre-recorded message telling me to enjoy my stay, and if there was anything the staff could do, just let them know.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. And a bit over the top. I get it. You are committed to my enjoying myself. But the recorded message....stop.

                            And then the second message.

A LIVE message from the staff (concierge? front desk? general manager? Don't know) checking to see if everything was okay, and letting me know that, REALLY, if there was anything, anything at ALL that I needed or wanted, just ask.

We have passed ridiculous and over the top and gone straight to Are You Serious? But unlike the eyeroll that I gave to the first message, this one got me thinking, Damn! How cool!

Seriously, this is commitment. Hampton has a loyal customer here. (Still worried about what awaits me at the breakfast buffet, though...)
