    So after Hubby got written up for this BS, the administrative staff who didn't like him smelled blood in the water and demoted him. They're super-short-staffed on supervisors right now, and they demoted him. They tried to fire him, but Hubby has enough allies above him in the food chain to prevent at least that from happening.

    They gave him a laundry list of reasons including failure to approve OT, spending too much time in the office, and insubordination.

    The failure to approve OT is straight-up BS. They recently implemented a new policy because they were having so much OT (because they didn't have any guards showing up for shifts so the supervisors had to keep covering) where Admin1 had to approve any OT. No matter when it happened, if a field supervisor thought they were going into OT they had to call her. Hubs did this dutifully. Other supervisors attempted to comply, but Admin1 never answered her phone. One of them emailed Admin1 after trying to call and not getting any answer, and got a snippy reply that they needed to call instead of email because Admin1 doesn't always check her email from home.

    But back to the list of reasons Hubs was demoted. They said he spends too much time in the office. Now I'm not there, but considering Hubs has been working 60+ hour weeks in order to cover other sites and has had to take a laptop into the field in order to do his administrative stuff while simultaneously covering said shifts (largely scheduling shifts), I find that difficult to believe. According to Hubs, they want supervisors to clock in and immediately leave. Even though they are also supposed to do scheduling and fill new shifts that pop up, etc.

    Another part of that is that in other regions, they've apparently had issues with guards sleeping on the job or showing up drunk/high/etc. The guards in Hubby's region are of a higher caliber. Hubby's been straight-up told by the admins that he and his colleagues are not doing their jobs because they aren't catching guards drunk on the job. They assume that since there's no problem, the supervisors aren't inspecting sites properly because surely there must be a problem if other regions are having problems! (Not inspecting sites properly wasn't listed in his reasons for demotion, but it was implied by saying he was spending too much time slacking in the office...).

    The insubordination stems from the fact that they claim he didn't follow company standards by not approving OT and hanging out in the office too much.

    Really, the admins just don't like him. This company has long burned though field supervisors by placing unreasonable standards on them and then demoting or firing them when they don't live up to the ideal they have in their minds.

    It's actually a relief to have him demoted, in fact. In this company, once you get promoted to field supervisor you have a target on your back by the office admins. Most of the guards don't even know who the office admins are or that they even exist; they're relatively safe and now Hubs is out of the line of fire.

    One of Hubby's precursors was demoted for insubordination because the office admins told them to schedule patrols (driving vehicles) on shifts 16 hours on, 8 off, repeat 4-5 times in a row. Hubby's precursor refused to subject his patrol guards to that on the grounds that it was unsafe and ridiculous. He was promptly demoted.

    Hubby's going back to the gated community he used to work at, and he'll be trained on a taser-and-handcuffs site so hopefully that will be a step above the base pay grade. He'll be throttled down to part-time, but knowing how they can't staff the company within two months I'm sure he'll be pulling OT again (historically this has been the pattern). He will still have his armed certification so he'll have potential to fill-in on higher-paying armed sites from time to time, too. But he is very much actively looking at other companies.

    What a crock! I hope he finds something else soon, this company sounds like it's circling the bowl...

      In other news (didn't really happen, just using an analogy), the mechanics at Arquebus Motor Freight haven't been doing their job. They were ordered to clean the DPFs on all the trucks in the fleet (with cost of the work on O/O trucks being billed back to the O/Os), but they didn't TOUCH my truck. The fact that my engine is subject to 2004 level emissions regulations (and therefore doesn't HAVE a DPF) is irrelevant.

      Admittedly security guards would be driving class 1 (normal passenger cars/pickup trucks in the 150/1500 series) vehicles, and therefore not subject to FMCSA regulations including Hours of Service, but in the U.S. (your location tag implies you're in Yankeeland) professional drivers are forbidden to drive a commercial motor vehicle between the time we hit 11 driving hours OR 14 hours after we came on duty (whichever comes first) and the time when we complete a 10 hour off-duty period. Also, we're allowed 60 on-duty hours in 7 days or (for companies that operate 7 days a week) 70 on-duty hours in 8 days. If a truck driver worked the schedule the admins ordered security supervisors to put guards on, and he got his logs checked at a scale, he'd wind up with a massive pile of tickets (over hours on the day, no proper rest break, and if it were 5 days in a row being over allowable hours on the cycle).
      Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.
