Where I live, rabbits are classified as "vermin". We are not allowed to keep them as pets, even desexed.

According to the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries Queensland (DPIFQ), the maximum penalty for keeping a rabbit as a domestic pet is now $30,000.
Ah, I'd forgotten the other meaning of "exotic" -- in ecology, it simply means an introduced species. And in the Antipodes, rabbits are also an invasive species, their introduction being just one of the several ill-conceived open-air experiments in ecology that have gone on down there. (Cane toads being another.)

We had something similar happen with a birdy vet. I called to set up an appointment for the feathered grump and got told, oh, that vet retired. Fortunately I knew of another, but that one was more expensive. There's only three or four bird vets near me, so when one leaves, I'd like to know about it.
I am no longer of capable of the emotion you humans call “compassion”. Though I can feign it in exchange for an hourly wage. (Gravekeeper)

We have one Dr at our clinic that will see anything other than, I think, spiders. Reptiles, birds, pocket pets, etc. She's pretty popular, because the actual 'exotics' clinic in our area won't see rabbits, as their Dr is allergic to them. The closest actual bird specialist, I think, is over an hour south of us.
