Some would say it doesn't matter because it's the message that's important. In fact, I've heard stories before about how some schools aren't really that interested in that type of stuff, but more about communicating the "message", so you end up with misspellings and "leet speak" in writing.

I often see cases where the writing is so bad that the message is in fact unclear or outright corrupted.

ETA for IPF: Your example sounds to me like a search-and-replace casualty. But for the writer not to spot it before posting, is of course inexcusable.
