You're a special one aren't you?
Ok so I dealt with this guy a little then got told a story little later, I don't know if this was before or after I dealt with him (I think it was before just for how the timing worked out).
I'm in the printer aisle and this guy walks up to me and points at a printer that's currently on sale and says basically:"I'll take one of those"
ME:I'll go see if we have any in stock
-checks inventory program, it says one (this means display model only)
Me: unfortunately sir we're down to just the display model
Him: (before I can even say a word) what kind of deal can you give me on the display model?
I basically tell him that I'd have to check with my manager to see if we could even sell the display model but I could see if I could transfer one in at no extra cost or see if the second store has any in stock.
So they ask the manager who was standing nearby who explains that because it's not clearance we aren't going to sell the display model. They end up going to the other store after we confirm they have some.
Doesn't seem very sucky? well that was just to help set the scene.
After he's gone I'm talking to the cashier about him and apparently he returned an open toner (normally we don't take back open ones, I don't know why we did this one) which was actually the same kind the printer takes that he was trying to buy. My manager apparently commented that we can't send it back to brother because it's already open, so we'll have to recycle it.
The customer apparently then offered to purchase the toner back at a reduced price because it's already open. the toner is 52 dollars new, he offered $20. so including tax that's 1/3 of the price. and after my manager said no he gave my manager a business card for "when he decides to sell that toner"
The first part is more just the tone and immediate reaction of his to what I said, normally I wouldn't have posted about that but the balllsyness of the second part, oi.

So let me get this straight.....he returns an open toner that he (presumably) paid full price for....then offered to buy it back at a discount because it was "open?"
Fucking scammer....kudos to you guys for standing your ground and telling him to piss off.

I need to return this
I'm sorry, we don't accept returns on open goods
Oh come on, PLEAAAASE!
Okay, just this once
Say, I notice that you have this item there that's opened! I'll go ahead and purchase that from you at, say, 70% off!
Sir, please fuck off and die. Over there in the red dumpster

We'd see something similar at MalMart.
SC: Yeah, I'd like to return this bread and other already-opened or perishable food.
Employee: Here's your refund *then tosses food in the claims bin, since it can't be resold*
SC: Oh, you're throwing it away? Can I have it for free then?
Employee:

I'll admit, I thought of that once in a while, but I'd never try it.
In my defense, I'm a writer. It's my job to dream up the worst that could happen.

scammer man is scamming.
reminds me of the paint stories where people return paint in order to re-buy it on clearance. i remember someone here posting that they would purposefully change the mix to prevent just that.
