  • Temper tantrums lead to bannings.

This didn't happen to me, and what I saw of the event wasn't anything spectacular, but this did happen tonight and I got a run-down of the situation after the fact.

So close to closing (around 9:50pm) a man with a woman, who is believed to be his mother, approach one of the cash lanes with a cart-load of furniture.

They were getting everything delivered, but had a special request.
There was a mattress that he wanted that we were out of stock on, but the Burlington store had plenty of. He wanted to buy the mattress at the Burlington store, but have it delivered for free, since he was already having the items from OUR store delivered.

    A supervisor was called.

The supervisor (who was the one who told me this story) mentioned that such a thing may be possible, but he can't speak for the Burlington store, and he's certainly not going to authorize anything on their behalf.

    The customer became instantly belligerent.

The dialogue is second-hand so this is only the gist.
SC: It's all Ikea! Why can't you do it?
SUP: Yes, it's all Ikea, but it's still a different location with their own rules. We can't authorize anything on their behalf.
    SC: This is BULLSHIT!

The SC then takes a step towards the SUP, tears his receipt into tiny pieces, shouts, "FUCK THIS," while throwing the receipt on the floor and leaves.
    Without his stuff.
    His stuff totaling roughly $1,400.

Yes. He left without his $1,400 purchase.

The SUP, being the, "We don't have to take that kind of behaviour," kinda guy calls LP, gives them the low-down and soon after is when I get filled in.

The SUP is having this man's photo printed from the security cameras and posted inside the cash office.
If anyone sees him in the store we're to cal LP right away to have him escorted off the premises.
He's banned and he doesn't even know it because he left in a huff.
Without $1,400 worth of stuff that he had already paid for.

The SUP managed to piece together the torn receipt enough to refund everything back to his card, so he didn't really pay for it in the end, but the SC must still be under the impression he has paid for the items.

This is why we're expecting him to be back, but he's still banned whether he likes it or not.

I'm wondering if he actually will come back. If he does I hope I'm there to see it, and you know if I am I'll be giving an update.

My only response to this is: ha-ha ha-ha haa haa. Oh please tell us if he comes back. Sounds like he had money to throw away, though, if he didn't demand a refund during his tantrum before he pulled a 2-year-old and stomped out...

Well, or I guess maybe just a raging moron. That's always possible.

We first jumped to the conclusion that the card wasn't his.
I know if it was me I'd be all over getting that refund, but not so much if it was a stolen card.
Given the way he reacted I would suspect that the stolen card theory is not too far off.

But the raging moron theory is also very likely.

Yes. He left without his $1,400 purchase.
Well, it would probably cost him alot to get it all shipped back to his home on planet Dumbass anyway.

I wouldn't have refunded it, I would have waited for him to come back in and just told him thats what you get for being a two year old and told him he was banned and then I would have refunded it after he left. Which I'm sure would have been after a massive hissy fit.
Am I sad because I am looking forward to the day when the people I will be dealing with will no longer be able to talk back?

Or somebody else's money to throw away, because I am too suspecting the card was stolen. $1400 is a king's ransom to me.

And IMO, anybody who does that sort of thing is a raging moron by definition.

I wouldn't have refunded it. Of course he'd be unable to pick it up later since he wouldn't have the receipt.

If the card were stolen, why would he care so much about free mattress delivery that he'd pitch a fit about it?

I'm betting raging moron. With extra moron.

I have to say, I DO like the fact that all the money was refunded so promptly. It sends the message that you find his behavior so repulsive that you are willing to immediately give up a $1400 sale without even being asked.

Telling an SC that his business isn't wanted takes away all his illusions of power.

Tell me about it. Someone stole my medication shipment... valued at $1,878.00. That was a horrible month, trying to straighten it all out and fighting with the insurance company about the quantity limitation on the medication.

I'm glad that your store refunded the money to the card, that shows good character & work ethic.

My guess is that if it was a stolen card he'd want as few purchases on it as possible to lessen the chance of the card company noticing it and putting a stop on it.
