Emetophobia is not a fear of catching an illness, it's a pathological fear of vomit or vomiting.

I don't usually comment on stuff like this but this one has been niggling at me for days.
Regarding the story:
Unfortunately for people with allergies (DH is an asthmatic hayfever sufferer, sounds like he's going to keel over of pneumonia in summer) there is no way for anyone to tell if it's illness or allergies causing the problem. And unfortunately it's not always possible to stay home if you have a cold, or even flu, as much as the world at large, and the sufferer wish it was. (Not to mention the idiots who are actually contagious and go out when they don't have to.)
If someone is immunocompromised or needs to avoid getting sick for some reason then they're probably going have to give you a wide berth because it's safer to assume you're sick and avoid you, than assume everyone has allergies and come into contact with someone contagious.
