    Great link; good information. I wasn't sure if it was law or at the restaurant's discretion either. Never thought it was fair, it would be like a store charging the cashier if someone shoplifts.

      Of course, the ever popular excuse:

      Occasionally, managers argued that employees signed agreements to cover unpaid bills, but those are illegal contracts.
      Which proves how little managers know about the contracts. The law in several countries is quite clear that if a contract violates a standing law, then the contract is void.
