  • So returning back to city college

So I can transfer out by my 25th birthday (I'm 23 now)

I was on a year dismissal because a teacher told me I had a C but put "D" in the records and I couldn't fight it (and my previous academic history was bad due to me struggling from personal issues and my inability to separate them with school) This was in 2012

I reapplied for Winter/Spring 2014 but ended up not registering because I was working. Went to reapply today, was told I have to do it online and whoever did it last semester should have been fired. (Yep. Was told that. ._.

I'm going to retake the assessment for English and Math...and Math is making me shake in my boots. I admittedly struggle with basic algebra, and I have 3 weeks to at least improve it to a point I will only have to take one class before I can go into statistics, a college-transferable math class.

Luckily my cousin and friends are helping me.

However, now I know what I want to do, finding the college for me to transfer to is becoming a pain...I'm doing a double major. Just not sure if I want it to be Japanese + Linguistics or Japanese + Asian Studies

Two people are shooting me down for these majors, although one admits if anyone could succeed with it, it'd be me. I intend to be an interpreter, but I keep getting pushed to go after something I don't believe I have the talent or stomach for. (Majority of my family is in medical field...specifically the baby business. Midwives, OBGYN, Fertility Specialists, etc. ) I find it an interesting field, but someone who faints at needles probably doesn't have the heart for it.

I dunno why I made this post so long, but I was hoping to see what people's thoughts are about my majors? Is it really THAT useless to try to become an interpreter? I dunno if I am getting disheartened or angry, but its something I dreamed about since I was 12.

If it's something you want to do, it never hurts to go for it. It's probably better than being down the road with the whole shoulda woulda coulda deal. As far as your majors, they are kind of specific and may make it more challenging to find a job. Not really much else I can say besides that except good luck with your studies!
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

Thanks to technology our world is becoming ever smaller, so I think interpreting is probably a good field to be in, especially if you can specialize in a particular business (example: we have a lot of Japanese visitors and some residents around here thanks to a large auto plant and its offices being located nearby. Also: many delicious sushi places since a UPS hub is ALSO nearby ).

One silly thing I am looking into is interpreting for the entertainment/sports industry. I have unofficial and unpaid experience for the latter. If not, I was approached by an agricultural company so I do have options. Last round would be in tourism, since in Cali we have a lot of things like Yosemite, San Fran, Redwoods, Etc.
