  • How dare you give me cash

Okay, so I recently started work at a casino resort. Almost every casino in existence has a players card program, we are no exception. Now, a lot of places do free slot play, we do not. What we do is offer bonus cash that is, well, actual cash, as in cashy money, greenbacks, legal tender.
    This happened Sunday night.
SC: Do you have free slot play.
Me: No, we don't do free slot play...
SC: That is ridiculous, everyone does rewards for players.
Me: As I was trying to explain, we don't do free slot play, what we do instead is give you bonus cash that you can use however you like.
SC: Well, what am I supposed to do with cash?
    Me:
SC: I don't want cash, I want slot play.
Me: Sir, you could use the bonus cash to play slots.
SC: This is just too confusing, you should just give people slot play rather than expecting them to know what to do with cash.

A variation on that is with comps, we give people the option of either having a one for one comp rate (one point for one penny) on food and merchandise (room comps are handled separately and are tied to average play over time instead of accrued points) or we'll do a two for one cash rate (two points for one penny cash, redeemable only in whole dollars). We are the only place that I know of that will allow you to actually cash out comps (albeit at a reduced amount) instead of being forced to use them in house. But again, we get complaints about how complicated it is... so sorry that we want to give you options.

How does that man function in the real world if he doesn't know how to use money? @_@

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

Nope, the gambling areas of casinos are all cash only, so if he is a player, he has to have at least some cash.

He's at a casino. There's better than average odds that he can't do math.

Grendus, you'd be surprised... the majority of people I've dealt with in casinos know damned well that they are going to lose money. Hell, I have an accounting degree (not that it's doing me any good in this economy) and I gamble... it's not about getting rich, it's about enjoying playing the game for a lot of people. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is bad at math, but that's kind of an unfair stereotype to put on gamblers, I'd put it on par with saying all video gamers are pimply teens in their mom's basement.

Seriously?! Well, gosh, if you don't want that nasty old cash, I'll be glad to take it off your hands...
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

You don't need to know math in order to know what money is used for.

What can you do with cash?

Makes me want to picture a D&D character a friend of Al's made up. You walk into his bookstore (ostensibly with money) and he goes:

                      "BOOK? YOU WANT BOOK?"

                      His only words.

I was thinking of the same thing, but couldn't remember the exact quote. I even tried to find a Youtube clip, but no luck.

Free slot play?! Oh yeah, he's serious.
Why? My experience with the free slot play is that 'free play' is only allowed on selected machines that could be sold as bench vises if they were any tigher.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!
