  • One sad sighting

I was in line at the post office and overheard a conversation over the phone. After he was off I got a chance to speak with him.

He'd moved to town to take up a job offer. The requirements of the offer mandated certain medical tests be performed. Those tests are rather expensive. The man did not have insurance. He wouldn't be covered by the employer's insurance until some months had passed. He didn't have enough money to cover the tests. His employer wouldn't cover them either.

So he basically moved to another city and got nothing out of it.

It's incredible that who was to cover the costs of the test never came up in negotiations about his compensation.

If they're mandating the tests, you'd think that's something the company HAS to cover >_>

You'd think so. If he pushed it, he might have been able to make them fold. But in this economy, companies know very well that most job-seekers aren't going to be very aggressive, or even defensive ... about anything.

That IS awful. I hope he can find another job soon.
