My standard greeting, as a cashier, is.. "Hi there! Did you find everything you needed?"
Yesterday, one answered "No, I didn't find the husband with a million dollars".
My response? "Oh man, neither did I, I've been looking for him for awhile!"
Keep in mind, I'm a guy. I'm openly gay, but very much a "guy", as in I know how to work on cars and am about as far removed from the stereotypical gay guy as it gets, and laugh my ass off at dick and fart jokes. You have absolutely NO idea I'm gay until I shove male bits in my mouth, to put it bluntly.
Her jaw dropped.. I just said "yeah, you probably didn't expect that line did you?". She just said "No, but if I find him, we can share him". I just smiled and laughed.
Customer was easily in her late 60s/early 70s. We both laughed pretty good, though she looked a little uncomfortable.
