Pioneer Cabin Tree in California felled by storms.

While not a human celebrity, the giant sequoia tree known as the Pine Cabin Tree is famous for having a tunnel through its trunk for 137 years. The tree itself is estimated to be more than one thousand years old.

The tunnel probably didn't hurt the tree much since it was through the essentially dead heartwood. But I do think that if it still had the anchoring roots where the tunnel opening was it might have been able to withstand the storm.
Figers are vicious I tell ya. They crawl up your leg and steal your belly button lint.

    I'm a case study.
