Report Button Blues

We've got a report button on each post. We still get people calling each other out in public over issues. Please, if you do feel that someone needs calling out over something offensive, hit the report button.

We know that some people feel that sometimes it's too small a complaint to worry the mods with, but we find it more troublesome to have to break up fights. We won't always agree with your assessment, since we have a wide and diverse membership, and we do try to have thicker skins from time to time whilst taking things into account, but we do see every reported post and ponder the situation.

Reporting a post will alert all moderators to the fact that there is a potential problem. We will act with reasonable speed in most cases (time zones permitting).

Please, let us handle it. It's what we're here for.

Bumping this up as a reminder. Please don't point out problems in the thread or act like a mod by publicly telling another poster he's breaking the rules.

Calling out other members is also against the rules. And we end up having *two* problem posts to deal with, which is twice the work, which makes us grumpy.

Just use the report button and let us know about potential problems. That's what it's for.

"Problems" can mean any of the following:

• a broken link - Telling a member their link isn't working is not the way to go. Report it so a mod can see it and edit it.
• a duplicate thread topic - Telling a member that their topic has already been posted is not acceptable. Report the duplicate so the mods can either merge or close the duplicate.
• something that offends or upsets you - Do not reply in the thread. Report it.

I just found another instance of someone responding to a post they found bothersome rather than reporting it.

So you know folks, infractions have been issued for this recently. Thats infractions. Plural.

Having to issue even one infraction for something as simple as this is one too many. Issuing more than one is even worse. We don't take pleasure in this, but when repeated warnings are ignored.....

Seriously, reporting is fast, easy, and anonymous.

It's NOT acceptable to reply within the thread if you're bothered by something that someone has said.

It's really, REALLY not that hard.
