Where Are you From: Toledo, OH/Mostly Poor/Surrogate Mother
Trouble: Mom Owes a Debt to the White Court
Aspect: My Dad is in the Loony Bin

Emma Baker was born an only child to a mundane family in Toledo, OH just over 20 years ago. Her father was a dentist and her mother an aspiring nurse. An illness left her mother, Connie, unable to bear children of her own despite being completely fertile. Wanting to have children she and Emma's Father, Jack, sought help from a local fertility clinic and eventually settled on transplanting one of Connie's eggs into a surrogate. Emma was born 9 months later a healthy baby girl. Shortly after that, and for reasons unknown to Connie and Emma to this, day Jack suffered a psychotic break. Growing up as a kid whose dad was in the loony bin caused Emma no end of troubles. She was bullied often in grade school and now tends to take a dim view of anyone that makes light of mental conditions.

What Shaped You: Raised by Grandma/Mom Killed by gang Violence/Nearly Committed
    Aspect: Gangs Suck!

Toledo is such a dull city all Emma could ever think about was getting the hell out of dodge asap. With her dad in a psych ward and mom putting herself through school to try and get a decent job, the day to day care of Emma fell to her Grandma Manely. The two got along famously right up until the day Connie was killed in a gangland shootout between the bloods and the cryps. It was a simple case of wrong place wrong time. After that Emma became suicidal for a time and was nearly committed herself. It was only the thought of her father that kept her from going completely off the deep end. Her Grandmother tried to see her through these times, but like most adults "She just didn't get it."

What Was Your First Adventure: College and oh Crap I'm a Wizard
    Aspect: Surprise you're a Wizard

Once Emma Graduated it was all she could do to get out of Toledo. She left Toledo for Boston College. Boston would be a nice place with lots to do and see, and more importantly it wasn't Toledo. She planned to major in Art or Architecture or something else equally artsy. That plan would have gone great if not for life throwing a monkey wrench into her plans as it is wont to do. After spending a year in school and switching majors 3 times Emma's latent powers began to awaken. At the time she didn't know it was her fault, but her latent magical energy spiked blowing a fuse in her dorm and nearly burning it down. Her spike in power caught the attention of a local man named Elias Pendegraft who began to pay much more attention to her.

Of course with her being a 19 something college girl and he a creepy old man she began to get that stalker vibe from him. Eventually she asked to have a restraining order taken out against him because the crazy old man was blabbing about magic and latent talent and just wouldn't leave her alone. Late one night when returning home to her dorm she found out he wasn't just a crazy old man. At first she thought her restraining order hadn't worked but then she noticed the creepy guy following her wasn't a creepy guy at all but a creepy monster. So she did what any sane 19 something college girl would. She screamed and ran like a scare little schoolgirl. Luckily for her Elias really was violating his restraining order. Her screams drew his attention and before she knew what the hell was going on he had fried the monster to a crisp. A ghoul he called it. A Fairly weak one, and one that had been attracted to her because of her power. Though it took her time to accept he explained to her that she had a talent, magic is real, and monsters and other scary things exist and if she would like, he would become her master and mentor.

Crossed Paths: Hide and go Seek - Guest Starring Peter Salt
Aspect: This is What Losing Control Looks Like

After her first year of training with Elias, almost to the day, he came to her and said he had a special task for her. It was rare he did this sort of thing. Said her inability to grasp the basics of the real magic was rough, but she'd learned enough to be trusted to go out on her own. He'd taught her about the White Council, it's laws of Magic and she'd even met a Warden when he told them he had taken her as an apprentice. So far all she had learned to do with her powers was to make a few trinkets, which Elias insisted was impressive enough, but for her she had seen him do more. She knew she could do more and that bothered her that she couldn't figure out how it was done, and Elias never really told her. He taught her enough "to save yer life kid." But that was it. His special task was to head out to South Boston and find a guy there that was starting fires. The stipulation to the task, track him down without any of her trinkets. All she could take was a piece of chalk, her knife, and her mutli-tool.

Despite not being allowed to use magic her first issue with this task was worse. Her dislike of gangs. Elias had learned about that after they had looked into each other's souls. Something he said all Wizard's could do. He knew what happened to her mother, and he knew how she felt about gangs. He said "If you can't get past petty issues like that, then you have no business using the real stuff." And so out she went. Shlepping all over South Boston asking questions of people she loathed, and surprisingly, once they found out she wasn't a cop, most folk just told her and laughed while they were doing it. Eventually she found herself down at The Five-Leaf Clover and that's when she saw Peter for the first time. And Somehow she knew it was him. She could feel the same vibe from him that she got from Elias. Granted it wasn't nearly as strong, but she knew he could use magic too and she knew now why Elias sent her after him. Of course in her wonder and amazement at this realization he had taken the time to slip away. She cursed herself but stopped and remembered something Elias used to say when he first began teaching her, "Magic takes brains kid. There isn't any amount of magic that will help you if you can't think for yourself. Despite fairy tales and other wonderful stories, magic is not a fix all. It's a tool, just like a knife, or a screw driver. All magic has a purpose and if you try to use it for something else it just won't work the way you want." She knew he meant for her to hone her ability to think problems through this way. So now her task was to figure out where this man would go. It didn't take long, but in his attempts to shake her off he set a car on fire... a freakin CAR! And he used that distraction to get away... again. Eventually though she did catch up to him and she told him who she was and why she was after him. She laid it all out, the council, the seven laws all of it except Elias.

She left Peter to himself after that with a warning to keep the laws of magic in mind or else someone other than her would be back. Once she was alone she called Elias to come and get her. While she waited for him, all she could think about was how easily and non-nonchalantly Peter has set that car on fire. And although to him he probably had firm control on what he could do, to her, that was the scariest thing she had seen anyone do with magic. Sure Elias had roasted a monster to death right in front of her, but that was different. That was to save her life. Peter had done what he did just because he could and it let him get away from her. What if she could do that... when she learned how anyway. Would learning to use that kind of magic maker her so callous? She still hasn't told Elias that she figured out the secondary aspect to his lesson, and she isn't sure if she ever will share her new secret fear with him.

Also Starring: Animal, Vegetable, Mineral and Monster - Guest Starring Randall Williams
Aspect: I Guess it Could be Worse

One of Elias's more sadistic, in her opinion, methods of training is to send Emma out to the public library to do research. Of course this isn't just any research. This involves going out and asking about books on various types of monsters. The goal of the training is to "Think for one's self" as he would put it. That simply meant trying to weed out the truth from the plausible, the, crap and the outright wrong. This was made all the more difficult by the fact that the librarian lady seemed to be in on the joke. She never batted an eye when Emma would come in and ask for all manner of strange books. In fact the time she asked about Vampires, instead of asking "Blake, Stoker, or Meyer" with a slight scoff at the end like she usually did she just gave her a section number to loook at with a wink.

So when one particular day the topic turned out to be ghosts Emma just sighed, and nodded, and headed off to the library as usual. "Hi Christina." She said as she approached the main desk. And it had to be Christina, woe betide anyone who said Chris, Tina, or any other shortening of the name. "Hello dear. What's the monster of the week today?" Emma gave a genuine smile. Whatever else you might say about the library lady, Emma liked her. "Ghosts." Christina rattled of a section number without missing a beat and pointed for Emma's benefit. "Oh and it's on the second floor dear." As Emma headed off Christina called out "Better take the stairs dear, wouldn't want you getting stuck." As Emma headed to the stairwell she swore Christina had just chuckled.

So the next few hours found Emma dragging out thick books on spirits, wraiths, ghosts, geists, poltergeists and all other manner of woojie woojie dead things. She had a habit of speaking out loud while lost in thought which on this particular day happened to attract the attention of another of the library's patrons. "Huh... burn the bones to dispel a ghost. I don't know... seems legit." She said to no one. From behind her she heard a scoff, "Total crap." She turned to look at the man who had spoken and found herself face to face, and much to her dismay, eye to eye with Randall Williams. She felt herself get pulled into a soulgaze almost immediately. (we can work out the details of what they each saw later) She almost reflexively found herself whispering after "Oh you poor bastard..." she blushed... "I mean... um..." Of course the man's immediate reaction was to ask "What the hell just happened." She did her best to explain what a soulgaze was and thought for sure he would call her loony. Instead the man he seemed more interested in her topic of study than anything else and the two spent the next hour chatting about ghosts and the like far more comfortably than any two sane people had a right to be. Afterward they parted ways, but not before Emma started to get the sense that maybe, just maybe, some people had it worse off than she did.

Here is a dice rolling utility I suggest we use when it becomes relevant.

It allows you to put in a Name, Comment, and Code. Anyone who puts in the same code can see the last 100 rolls that were made by entering the same code and rolling or clicking "show history"

I suggest the code CSDFRPG (customers suck, dresden files rpg) - The code is case sensitive. (i've made a few example rolls using this code if you want to check it out)

The first box is where you enter the die roll which for us will always be 4dF+x where X is the relevant skill mod. It assumes +0 if no plus is put.

          Total Refresh: 2
          Character: Peter Salt
          Player: Jay 2K Winger
          Template: Focused Practitioner (Pyromancer)
High Concept Aspect: FIRESTARTER STREET THUG
Trouble Aspect: THE CYCLE OF REVENGE

Physical Description: About 6'3", 260 pounds or so, fairly bulky of build. Peter has short dark hair and intense dark eyes. He has a tendency to wear t-shirts, often sports-related (he's a huge Red Sox fan) and a black leather jacket, with blue jeans and sneakers.

Phase One: Down and Dirty South Boston Lad
          Aspect: BROTHERS IN ARMS
Peter was born in South Boston, and from an early age, things never were easy. Marilyn and David Salt both had to take jobs in order to make ends meet, and Peter, left to his own devices, inevitably got into trouble. From falling in with the gangs, the Marine Park Breakers, in particular, to starting fires in trashbins and back alleys, Peter never put much stock into schooling, cruising along with just enough to keep getting passed up to the next grade.

Peter got on well with the Breakers, tangling with various small-time gangs to keep his neighborhood safe. This eventually got him to butt heads with Liam O'Doole and the Saints, but they recognized a kind of kinship in one another. Sure, they had their differences and tended to scrap with each other as much as anyone else, but they all had an extreme dislike for the Russian Mob trying to take over the neighborhood. Whether it's the Breakers, the Saints, or one of the other gangs, Peter's got a selection of friends that'll gladly help him put foot to backside if it'll keep Konstantin Karkov out of South Boston.

Phase Two: Been In The (Gang) Wars, Ma
Phase Aspect: TROUBLE ALWAYS FINDS ME

Of course, while the gangs have common enemies in Karkov's Mafiya, they have their own little turf wars with some regularity. Someone from the Breakers would break the arm of a Beckler Ave gang member, which would prompt Beckler Ave to smash up a Breaker's car. The Breakers would trash the store of a Beckler Ave notable, which would have the side effect of pissing off the Deadly Lane Boys. Invariably, Peter found himself caught up in most of these conflicts, helping lob firebombs around and otherwise being the Breakers' resident "firebug."

Of course, what none of them knew, and what Peter tried to keep them from finding out, was that sometimes he didn't need matches or to flick his lighter to get the fires to start. He experimented, in disused warehouses and secluded parts of Marine Park, with fuels and sparks and similar, and found he could get the fires to dance for him. As cool as it was, he knew instinctively that this was something to keep secret.

If it wasn't the perpetual gang trouble, then Peter wound up running afoul of the law. He's had his scrapes with the Boston PD in the past, for the fights and brawls of course, as well as B&E and on suspicion of arson. And of course, his family didn't much care for the crowd he ran with, neither his parents nor his extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Phase Three: We Don't Need No Drugs Here
Phase Aspect: LET THE MOTHERF***ER BURN

Although Peter could make the flames dance, he had no inkling that there was anything more to it. That there was anything more to the world than the Have's (all them posh nancies at "Haavud" and whatnot, and greedy bastards like Karkov) and the Have-Not's (himself and the gangs). Life sucks for a lot of people, sure, and there's nothing wrong with drowning your sorrows and lamenting the way of the world down at the Five-Leaf Clover or that Biers place, but Peter drew the line at drugs. Anything stronger than cigarettes or marijuana (because seriously, what was the harm with that stuff) set his temper to blazing. And when his temper sets to blazing, stuff tends to burn.

The gangs had found out about a drugs lab down by Sharon's Park-- just over I-93 in Dorchester-- where the Ivans were cooking up heroin, or meth, or some other bad shit that was getting peddled to kids in South Boston. Peter volunteered to go take care of it, and went in at night, when it was less likely to have people in it. There were some, but he "persuaded" the one or two guards he found to get out of there. (Smashing one of them in the kneecap with his trusty baseball hat may have helped.) They weren't the only security, however, as Peter found himself face to face with a particularly tougher man, who just seemed to laugh off Peter's attempts at hurting him. At least until Peter, his blood up, flung a fireball in his face. The man's skin burned away to reveal the monstrous visage of a Red Court vampire, and it was distracted enough by this to then get hammered back over a table of flammable material, setting the table and the vampire on fire.

Peter made sure it wouldn't get up by smashing it over and over with his bat until it stopped moving, then got out of the building as it caught fire and burned down. He still has some nightmares about that creature's face, but he's not sorry about what he did to it. At first, he almost chalked it up to a contact high, but something-- maybe the song of the fire in his blood-- told him otherwise. He knows what he saw, and he knows it was real.

Phase Four: I Have Enough Trouble - guest starring Emma Baker
Phase Aspect: THE MAN TRYING TO KEEP ME DOWN

After the drugs lab fire, Peter was a lot more conscious of people watching him. He left out the vampire monster in his recap to the gangs, and even the mundane authorities chalked up the strange, charred animal carcass found in the burned-down building to a guard dog from the mob. The fire brought the attention of the White Council of Magic to Peter Salt's neighborhood, though. He noticed some college girl scoping him out, and not in the usual "horny college chick" way. He got enough of a bad vibe off of her that he started trying to avoid her. When she kept pursuing him, however, Peter caused a car to catch fire and used her distraction by the conflagration to make his escape.

Eventually, however, he did run across that college chick again, and this time there was no way he could slip away without possibly hurting other people with the flames. Her name was Emma Baker. She told him about magic, monsters, and the White Council of Magic-- and about the Laws of Magic, in particular the part about "Thou Shalt Not Kill." Peter, now he knew she was representing another aspect of authority, quickly tuned her out. He would do what he needed to do to keep South Boston safe.

Phase Five: Hey, Hey, Do That Jedi Thing - guest starring Jad Frost
Phase Aspect: LET'S HEAR IT FOR TEAMWORK

One night down at the Five-Leaf Clover, Peter met Jad Frost, a gang member on the outs after a recent stretch "up Tufts-way" (i.e. the psych ward). Though most of the gangs had shunned Jad, a few of the lads-- including Peter-- were a little more welcoming. Peter, still angry after his run-in with Emma and his learning of the Laws, had his blood up and was eager to go commit some violence. Fortunately for him, Liam had heard of a "weird creep" stalking around Thomas Park, and Peter volunteered to go run him off. Jad, looking to earn back some respect, went with him.

They split up a bit in Thomas Park, but both ran across the "weird creep" about the same time. Said "creep" turned out to be a ghoul. Peter, despite a swing from his baseball bat that would have sent a baseball right over the Green Monster, ended up getting swatted aside by the ghoul, who tried to run-- and ran straight into a rock thrown straight in its face by Jad's kinetomancy. Jad kept it off-balance with another rock throw, just long enough for a furious Peter to hit it with a fireball. The ghoul was thoroughly "burninated," and the two ghoul-killers had found a kindred spirit of sorts, a kinetomancer meeting a pyromancer.

Yesss, one of us, one of us!

Ahem. You'd be better off if you had the Dresden Files RPG sourcebooks (Your Story and Our World) so you could pick an appropriate template for your character. But I/we can help.

What kind of character you lookin' to play, Mytical?

I'd be willing to help out as well

You can snag the PDF versions of both books for fairly cheap, $20 total on amazon. Or if you prefer drivethru rpg has both hard copy books as a bundle for $45 which is pretty good price wise.

I'm keeping it kinda generic until I get a plot line figured out.

Which is one of tonight's projects to keep my mind busy at work.

Well see here is the thing, money is virtually non existent right now, so even the $20 is outta my reach for a little (just had to get a car because old one died), so I kinda have no clue what is even possible. I have zero knowledge of the game. At all. None. Zero. Zilch.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

Finally getting these down - that third one could turn into a rather lengthy story if I find the time to write it.

                            Where You're From
Aspect: Snubbed Genius (in his opinion, at least)

Despite always being a bright child, Randall always seemed somewhat troubled. His numerous quirks worsened as he aged, and lead to no end of trouble for him in school and his personal life. He personally has always felt everyone should have gotten over it and let him do what he wanted.

                            What Shaped You
                            Aspect: It's Not Paranoia If...

As Randall made his way through school and got into a major university, it was always a question whether he'd be breezing through on scholarships, or finally crack and let the doctors settle on a diagnosis. Despite medication, psychiatry, and theories about a complex form of schizophrenia, Randall was more interested in the growing hints that he wasn't crazy, just more perceptive than others.

                            What Was Your First Adventure
                            Aspect: Damn Incorporeal Nuisance

Randall was doing his best to keep his head straight, ignore the voices, visions, and vaguely threatening sensations - and definitely the occasional prediction of doom that was inevitably chalked up to paranoid fantasy (not that anyone ever bothered to check his notes after the fact) - to focus on his schoolwork. It was even working. Up until he was visited by the late victim of a campus stalker, who demanded his help. Constantly. And generally made life difficult until he accepted. To make a long story short, helping those in need does wonders for one's sense of self; but the fights, police investigations, psychiatrist visits, interruption of studies, unexcused absences, and general disruption of life involved isn't quite so good for one's academic career. So school didn't exactly pan out. Oh, and despite getting revenge for her death and all that, Reilly the ghost still isn't moving on, instead apparently favoring his company. Joy.

Suggestions for our crossover stories, guys?

Trouble: It's all in his mind.
                              Aspect: Part of the Pack.
He ran away from a foster home after being placed there when his family was killed in a boat accident. He took up with a gang, and has a 'rap sheet' as long as his arm. Breaking and entering, theft, and the like.He has not had a family since 13, and is seriously troubled and rebellious. He finds it hard to trust anybody. He was part of a gang for awhile, but they abandoned him when his 'weirdness' began.

When his powers activate, he can get splitting headaches. His powers are all mental based, and he thinks he is going crazy. If he is not really concentrating it can get out of his control, sending objects and even people flying. Right now he gets drained if using his abilities. Takes as much effort to lift a book with his mind as it would to physically lift and carry it. (In other words he can only lift as much with his mind as he could physically lift, and he gets just as tired as he would if doing it physically). While he was part of the gang, he learned a few things. Like how to hotwire a car, pick locks, how to get around security systems. He was a quick learner. He is skilled at breaking the law, not so much in following it. Now he can open a lock with his mind, if it is not a complex one.

                              Gang Colors
He would have done anything for the gang, including kill if they asked. To him they were his only family, and several times he went to jail for something one of the other members did. However, as soon as his powers manifested themselves, the gang dropped him like a bad habit. Consequently he has trouble trusting anybody. He is still feeling loyal to them, despite the fact they are not loyal to him.

                              I've got a splitting Headache
During an attempted heist of some artwork in a museum, his power first manifested itself, and was out of his control. Objects started flying around the room, and set off the alarm, and the gang beat it post haste, leaving him with a splitting headache, facing serious trouble, and just plain out of luck... currently a guest in a mental ward..and even if he can get out..the police will keep an eye on him as he is considered a delinquent.

Into the Fire - guest starring Peter Salt
Phase Aspect: LET'S HEAR IT FOR TEAMWORK

One night down at the Five-Leaf Clover, after being sprung from the loony bin Jad met Peter Salt. Although he didn't really trust this Peter guy, since he didn't trust anybody right now, he decided to give it a go. Besides, he needed to blow off some steam after being pinched for the museum job. Some good mindless destruction might just do the trick.

They split up a bit in Thomas Park, but both ran across the "weird creep" about the same time. Said "creep" turned out to be a ghoul. Out of pure fear and instinct Jad had thrown up his hands to protect his face, and suddenly rocks started to pelt the Ghoul. Jad kept it off-balance with another rock throw, just long enough for a furious Peter to hit it with a fireball. The ghoul was thoroughly "burninated," and the two ghoul-killers had found a kindred spirit of sorts, a kinetomancer meeting a pyromancer. Jad's power still sort of weirded him out, but he thought this Peter guy's power was awesome. For a bit he thought of all the mischief the two could do, if Jad could over come his hesitancy to use his power, but thought that most likely Peter could do it on his own. Pictures of fire shaped in the form of tigers, dragons, or such still wormed the way into his mind.

Also Starring - Guest Starring Randall Williams
Aspect: Some things are better off staying secret.

Jad had thought moving things with his mind was scary enough, he couldn't have even imagined having some invisible girl talking to him. He believed the other guy though. Heck, the other person would probably think HE was crazy if he started talking about being able to lift up people or objects with his mind. So it was easier to talk about the invisible girl. Much, much easier.
