  • Bugger it all.

Just found out we have to have Souage [our little shepherd] put down. She started coughing badly, and the vet discovered she has several large tumors in her lungs, with one totally collapsed and one collapsing.

I lost a dear cat to cancer after 14 years of great companionship. This cat had the most perfect temperament ever. She didn't hiss, she didn't bite, she didn't scratch. She was always very gentle and loved to cuddle. I've never lived with another cat like that.

It was so sad at the end because the cancer, which was in her throat, took away her ability to meow and she always had a sweet meow. I cried for hours after we told the vet to put her down (following an unsuccessful surgery).

I still miss her (even though I own another cat now). Losing a pet is difficult, especially when it's become so special to you.

Take your time to grieve, it's an important part of the healing process.

        And always treasure the memories.

Thanks all. The [large animal] vet is coming in about 7 hours. [the normal housepet vets don't make house calls and we want to put her down at home instead of in an office.]

I suppose we will start looking for a pup to raise for a service pup a bit sooner than we expected, when we get back from our March trip.

Much sympathy to you AD! I know all too well how rough it is.

Besides my condolences, I wanted to bump this because of the above. I know there are a lot of animal friends here, and sometimes part of that companionship is releasing them from pain and suffering. But a lot of folks don't know that many vets are willing to do a house call for this and it makes things a lot less traumatic for the pet, and a little easier on the humans. Thank you for the reminder.
