  • OI this cat.

Ok so my sister has us watching her two cats (she had another years ago before these two that was killed by a car) One is named Harmony the other doesn't have an official name but seems to have a few. I suggested Discord but I think the official name is Prometheus (my favorite) also known as trouble, or thing 2. Both cats are ex strays and Mel acquired them from a previous owner.

Overall they are pretty well behaved cats and we all love them both.

Now Harmony could not be better named, she is a very easygoing cat, a little lazy but not entirely her fault. She's a cripple, ever since my sister first got her she has had a serious limp in her back left leg. The best theory is leftover injury from a car accident. She has an interesting walk and has been nicknamed Shamblor by my sister's boyfriend. Despite the other being named trouble she is the subject of this thread. When my sister first got her the cat almost died, it wasn't eating and it was throwing up what it did eat the vet couldn't figure out what was going on. That is until the X-Ray of the cat show a shiny little circle in it's middle. It had swallowed a dime who knows how long ago and it was clogging things up seriously bad. So my sister had the cat have surgery to get it removed. Kitty survived YAY!!!

I don't think she got the dime but it is the funniest xray you'll ever see.

So the cat doesn't walk very well and developed a habit of getting into the litter box (we had to get very low ones) and then accidently aiming out of it and making a huge mess. various solutions involving garbage bags, cardboard and multiple litterboxes were involved and eventually it was settled to adapt an underbed tote into a gigantic litterbox and this works most of the time.

So the vet gave my sister special food to help the cat's mobility and it does seem to help, but possibly related the cat now seems to be mildly incontinent. Basically put a towel under the kitty if it's laying down. We love the cat but OI this thing.

Why do we put up with all this trouble from our pets? I have almost 16 years of Vet bills for my dog. I am afraid to add them up.

Your sister should ask her vet about Proin.

Guess we are responsible pet owners. I know mine cost me quite a bit over the years. And an exotic pet specialist is VERY pricey.

How old is Harmony? Is she incontinent of urine, stool, or both? Is the stool formed or semi liquid?

She could have parasites or a bowel infection that could be causing her to have diarrhea, or could have another bowel obstruction. If this is a new behavior, she should probably see a vet. She could also have a UTI, which would explain the urine incontinence.

My sister has had her a couple years now, only incontient in regards to urine. We think it may be related to the limp in that she just has problems in the hind area. She is taken to the vet regularly. there is no issue with the stool as far as I know.

It could be related to the injury that caused her limp. One of my earlier cats became incontinent (urine only) and the vet suggested she had had some sort of scare in the litterbox while peeing and thus would not pee there anymore. She was quite elderly at this point and I would not be surprised if she had been also rather senile. She picked a spot under my computer table to do her tinkling so I adapted a cat carrier and set it in her new spot. She seemed quite happy with the arrangement.
