  • Halloween = Christmas?

Why do computer geeks always confuse Halloween with Christmas?

    31 Oct = 25 Dec.

They'd have to be completely clueless to confuse the two.

I used to work with a guy who would dress up as Santa for Halloween, with a stick-on name tag that said X Shopping days until Christmas.

Don't know if he was a computer geek, though.

I believe he's referring to different number bases used in computers. 4 of the most common are:

decimal (base 10 - ordinary numbers)
          hexadecimal (base 16)
          binary (base 2)
octal (base 8 - was common on Sperry systems, less common now).

All of them tend to be abbreviated as the first 3 letters, so:
          31 OCT (3x8+1) = 25 DEC (2x10+5)

Just found this - yep, I got it. Had to explain it to hubby.

Now to go send it to my computer engineer son-in-law

My name is Merriweather, and I'm a geek...........

Y'know, it can be lonely. I once had a co-worker search the entire office to find someone he could share a joke with, cause most were COBOL programmers, and you had to know Fortran to get the joke. I knew both, he was so happy to find me, and have me laugh at it. Only, then I didn't have anyone to tell it to :-(

            Madness takes it's toll....
