“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers
"...Well, they were wooden trees, and they were made
Entirely
Of wood..."
OK, I read this in Uncle Joey's chipmunk voice he uses.
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...
If you haven't been on a jet boat - it is so much fun. They have a very shallow draught and go very fast through very shallow water, and do power spins. Shotover boats do all that in a narrow river with steep rock walls on one or both sides (depending on where on the river you are).
Our boat driver told us about a tourist who complimented him and the Shotover company on how 'realistic' the ride was. Realistic? he questioned. 'Oh yes, these fake rock walls look so real!'
When she found out they were, indeed, very, very real rock walls and it was a very real boat that wasn't on rails, she refused to stay in the boat and had to walk back to the jetty...
I wonder till this day what she thought of the bungee jumping a few miles away.
Some those questions sound like they could be from one of our library customers......who apparently mistook the trash can by the front doors for our "bookdrop return area".
