Default Rotted

The owners of my store are multi-franchisees, which means that they own several stores in the area. As such, employees working between two or three stores is fairly normal, especially the junior managers who are to cover the days off for the store managers.

Well, the junior manager that was to be covering my day off today has royally pissed me off. And has also pissed off the manager of his home store. He decided to call in sick just before 6am this morning for a shift that starts at 7am. I texted him back with a 'me getting a day off seems to be impossible' and I let him know I'm not happy. He's crying IBS yet again. Dude, I deal with it too...but unlike you I routinely avoid foods that trigger me, especially when I have to work the next damn day! And this isn't the first Monday he's done this to me either.

How he pissed off the manager of his home store is that when he closed last night (that store isn't 24hrs like mine) he didn't do ANYTHING he was supposed to. No bread was put into the retarder, no dishes were done, nothing was wiped down, and it look like a bomb went off. Yeah, you just don't do that sort of crap...especially if you're a junior manager.

I just came off a 12-day stretch of work between my scheduled shifts, a work-paid first aid course, and a staff meeting. I am quickly hitting burn-out levels here. I seem to regularly get called in on one of my days off for something and I'm really getting very sick of it. Frankly, with how this particular junior manager has been (not) handling his responsibility I'd be moving his ass back down to regular staff - he clearly cannot fulfill the requirements of the job. And it's not like he has it as stressful as I do - I run the damn store, he just has to work a shift or two at my store so I can have a day off.

And to top it all off - he's scheduled to work at my store tomorrow for my next day off. If he calls in sick again I'll be demanding a doctor's note. I don't give a shit if he has to go to the ER to get one because if it's so bad that he can't work (but go and spend the day with his girlfriend) then he can damn well buck up and go to the ER.

I'm abso-fucking-lutely rotted at the moment, and I'm out for bear. If I see him on my own travels today I will rip into him so hard he won't know what the hell hit him.

Edited to add:

He just texted me to say he's not sure if he's going to be feeling well enough to work tomorrow. I texted him back telling him that he can find his own replacement because if I'm sick I have to find my own replacement too. He has just pissed me off enough where I'm going to be demanding that he NOT be in my store to cover my days off anymore, that they'd better find somebody that is much more reliable than he is turning out to be.

*gives hugs*

Are you able to do anything against the slacker or is that only the owners' prerogative?

It's largely up to his home store manager but I did let her know that his constantly blaming his IBS for why he can't work is bullshit. It's a known fact that he doesn't take care of it properly and regularly eats his trigger foods, so there's no real excuse for what he's doing. But I will be taking it up with head office and upper management because something has to give, and soon, before I up and quit out of frustration.

First parsed as "out for beer". Which might not be a bad idea.

Good luck with this guy. He probably thought his IBS was a get-out-of-jail-free card, until he ran into a superior (you) who also has it but deals with it appropriately so it doesn't interfere with life. There's some pwnage there if you look closely.

Regarding "trigger foods": Is he ignorant, or just doesn't give a shit damn? If the former, he can be educated; if the latter, then there's not a hell of a lot you can do for him, or with him either.

(I had a great-aunt and -uncle who were both diabetic. She took care of herself; he ate what he damn well pleased, took his insulin when he felt like it, etc. They both lived about the same length of time, but her quality of life was way better than his, e.g. she died with both her feet still attached, etc.)

I'm still hanging in there, but I am looking for another job. I know if things don't hurry up and change that I will in serious need of medical leave from burning out.

Shalom, I saw what you did there LOL Thank you for the much needed chuckle! I'm not sure if JM is ignorant or just doesn't care. It could even be that he's young enough to think that it doesn't entirely matter what he does to his body, but he's going to find out that he's not indestructible soon enough, I think. If he's really having as much trouble as he's claiming to have then he'll be in the hospital sooner rather than later.

If he does try to call me tomorrow I'm going to set him straight - his IBS is not something to use as an excuse and he really needs to get it under control. Yes, it means a bland diet, but it's better than being sick on a regular basis!

And I think that I will be trotting up to the store to buy myself a 6-pack of beer. I could certainly use a cold one or three
