So my job (large home improvement center) is switching over to using ear bud radios on the floor. However they are not bringing in enough for everyone one. They are apparently going to be shared devices. And they plan on "cleaning" them with alcohol wipes between uses. While in theory that might work.. this still rather grosses me out. Does anyone else think this is horrifically unhygenic and disgusting in general?

Not only is that just gross, but ear buds form to peoples ears and should not be shared. Here's hoping that you will be able to get one of your own because yuck, just yuck. I would not want to share my earmolds for my hearing aids and that is about the same thing.

I detest earbuds. They won't stay in my ear (mostly) and I just hate the way I can hear myself swallow or hear if anything brushes up against them. *shudder* I'll cling to my over-ear headphones until I die.
That being said, can't the flu be transmitted this way? Through an ear infection or something? I'd fight against this, I'm fairly positive I could get a note from my doctor without any trouble.Replace anger management with stupidity management.

I think there is some sort of talk of my company switching over to this sort of system but we're not a very large store and there's phones all over the place so it would seem to be a waste to me. In a big store, sure. But yeah, it's just totally gross to me and would not use that at all if I could get away with it.
I worked one Christmas at Kohl's and they used them. Seemed to me they just had them sitting around between uses. Blech!I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

And next you will be required to wear the company pair of underwear, passed from shift to shift.I am not an a**hole. I am a hemorrhoid. I irritate a**holes!

Pretty sure this would be an OSHA violation. Whether it is or not, I'd flatly refuse to share an earbud with anyone. Just, ewwww. Wanna write me up for refusing? Fine, I'll reply on the write up exactly WHY I'm refusing, plus note that if I'm forced to do this, the company will be held liable for ANY and ALL medical costs caused by such an unhygienic practice. You're only delaying the inevitable, you run at your own expense.
