TelephoneAngel's thread reminded me of this SC I had.

    Me: yours truly
    SC: Sucky Customer

    Me: <does opening spiel>

SC: I need the passcode for my wireless network.

Me: Okay sir, what kind of router do you have?

    SC: Belkin

Me: I would be happy to help you sir, but unfortunately since we don't support nor provide those routers you would need to contact Belkin.

SC: Okay then what's the password to my email?

Me: Before I can give that out sir, I would need the last four of your social.

SC: What? I'm not giving that out, it's against the law!

Me: Sir, without you verifying the last four of the social on the account, I cannot give you the password.

SC: Well then get me a supervisor!

    Me: Okay, one moment.

<walks up to supervisor, explains about SC and transfers SC to supervisor> .

    Fin.

Agreed with previous poster. Social engineering attack or complete moron who doesn't deserve to work there.

The wireless router issue is just a case of pure customer ignorance.

The failure to authenticate issue is a complete violation of company IT Security policy.

I'm assuming your company forces every employee to sign some sort of document acknowledging the company's IT Security policy?

Either case, to the OP - Sorry you got stuck with that sucky call. I've had a few of those too.
