I'm sorry, but I am never running so behind or am so late that I can't or won't pull over for an ambulance. And while I hate to generalize, anyone who doesn't pull over for an ambulance or other emergency vehicles is not only breaking the law, they are also major fucking douchebags, and I hope they run their car right into a utility pole at 80 mph.
Apparently the guys who don't let the Ambulance pass have never seen Diehard 3 (I think). Just follow the blocker...

Sorry, Jester, but I have a problem with that. Don't you dare take out my internet that way. Have them hit a bridge abutment. Much less collateral damage.

Sorry, but if the situation involves people with red/white/blue flashing lights and/or guns, your needs get trumped. Always. Discussion closed.

the bridge is no better, as around here, the bridge is immediately closed, which would stop me getting into work. (the train I take crosses over the nearest bridge on approach to the station i get on at). they should drive over (or into) a cliff.

I've been that person in an ambulance (my second motorbike accident, when this twat crashed into me when trying to overtake), and I always hope that anyone who doesn't pull over for a flashing light ambulance is one day that person in the ambulance... and no-one pulls over to let it past.

probably a good thing she decided not to get a room there.

most likely she'd find something to complain about and then demand a freebie anyway

I would have refused. My job is not to deal with a bitch on the phone, it's to deal with the pt in front of me. If anything had happened to bleeding lady because you were on the phone with an unrelated person/matter you can be sued.

Hence why I said "standing by" rather than "actively treating the victim"

I am, admittedly, rather biased with the ambulance question, as I watched my father get taken away in one in 1980. He died five months later, never returning to our home. I was 10. So, YEAH, I kind of am VERY FUCKING BIASED about the issue of pulling over or not for am ambulance. I KNOW what it feels like to be on the other end, as a family member. (While it probably did not take the ambulance that long to get to our hose that October day, to us, it felt like an eternity. And while I often can't remember things from last week, last month, or last year, I remember THAT day VERY clearly.)

Hypothetical Manager: "Why were you late?"
Me: "I had to pull over to let an ambulance by."
                    Hypothetical Manager: "That's no excuse."
Me: "Tell that to the family of the person that needed the fucking ambulance."

I will gladly lose a job over shit like this, because shit like this is simply the right thing to do, and anyone who doesn't see this needs to have a date with a rabid hungry wolf.

EMTs deal with enough shit in their job. Why give them more?

If I'm there with my ambulance on a call, even of my partner is taking lead I'm there to back them up. Try to give me a phone to talk to a person who has NOTHING to do with the patient in front of me and you will at a minimum get a look and at worse some not so nice words. Anyone who comes out of that ambulance has a job to do, we are are not just "standing by" while on scene. Don't add your work problems to ours just because you don't want to deal with a customer.

Jester, seriously I know emotions are running high and all, but what did the wolves ever do to you, even rabid and hungry ones deserve something better than that.

See I thin the deserve to be paraded around town and publicly shamed before being sent off and exiled to some godforsaken rock.

I hate those jackasses so much.

I also do it for funerals too. Although usually pulling over isn't going to set me back long enough to make me late. Mainly because I usually got to work anywhere from 15-30 minutes early anyway.

I don't think wolves are that picky in their food...meat is meat. And better these jackholes than someone the human gene pool might miss.

I don't pull over for funerals, but I don't not pull over for funerals. I know that sounds nonsensical, but since they are not screaming down the road with sirens blaring trying to get to an emergency as quickly as possible, I don't feel the need to get out of their way....but if they are crossing my path, say on a cross street, of course I'll let the whole procession through. I certainly would never cut them off, as I've seen done by yet more jackholes. Who clearly should be more meat for the wolves.

Pulling over for funeral processions is an act of respect for the deceased, not because funeral processions have the right-of-way. However, in some areas this seems to be a forgotten tradition. Some funerals do get a police escort.

When my father was buried in Tallahassee, FL, my wife was impressed at how all of the traffic pulled over when the funeral procession passed. Street construction workers even stopped working and took off their hats. We don't see that in the DC area.
