  • sneaky attempt at a discount

During my audit shift at the motel the police dropped off a couple because they had done something which warranted the police towing their car away. The officer asked me to give them a discount. I obliged with our corporate rate (twenty dollars off what the rack rate was for the night.) They seemed surprised that 79 dollars seemed a bit high - but really what choice did they have?

A short time later I receive an outside call on the switchboard and it is the dude asking me what the discount of the day was. I quote him 89 which is still ten dollars off. I really think that he believes I was trying to rip them off and take advantage of their situation.

Given the guy's negotiating "skills" it's a wonder the cops were so nice to them.

It sounds like this couple hadn't been to a motel in some time.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

...or the last hotel they were in was the $20-per-couple type located in the seedy section of town. You know, the type of place that even the cockroaches try to avoid.

Which is generous. It gives the professional fifty-five minutes to shower afterwards.
