I have a feeling that Uthdentroll - was giving an example of a request from a guest . . .and then stating corporate policy. Pizza for delivery just happens to be a common request . . . not an attack on honestly employed . . . honest working delivery persons. It only takes one bad apple to cause change for everyone. (Meaning once upon a time a person impersonated a delivery person and attacked a guest - ergo no more deliveries to anywhere but the front desk)

Hey, suit and tie + briefcase = works there, right?
All you really have to do is act like you belong where you are.

The vast majority of people aren't really paying all that much attention to their surroundings or the people around them.

I get a lot of double-takes from people doing things they shouldn't be doing noticing me noticing them. Of course, I don't let them notice me if it's anyplace not extremely public. I'm not suicidal, after all.

I dont mean the pizza delivery people are bad. infact they are just like us making an honest living.
But long time ago a pizza delivery guy actually went to the guest room when he was making delivery and actually raped the woman. It happend way before i started working there.
A lot of guests don't realize it is for their own good.
Another example is, room key.... stranger came up asked for his/her room key. standard policy... ask for ID before issuing keys.... they get all upset because
"Why? you dont recognize me?", "I just checked in this afternoon.".
Dude.... no ID no Key..... hotel policy.. ...
I always ask them "You want some stranger walk into your room?"

Sorry to have jumped to conclusions. I was being a little (okay, a lot) oversensitive that day....

It's interesting that y'all tell the stories about workplaces where you can so easily get past security. I've before had the security guard yell at me for holding the door open without checking to see if the person who was coming in had a badge... said person coming in was my team manager...

I was the recpt./ security check point for a major company. One of the top in the country people was coming for a visit. I knew a big wig was expected but, it wasn't anyone that I had ever met before.
So this guy comes in and tells me his name and whom he is meeting and asks for a code card. (doors had readers that visitors needed passes for)
I said "I would be happy to give him one provided he show me his company id." One of the lower level managers (that didn't like me) was just coming up front and heard this. She started to get on me for asking for his id . . . He in turn looked at her and said somthing along the lines of me being the only person in the 10 locations he had visited yet that day that was actually doing my job. -Man that felt good. (It even got put in his report of his visits that our location was at the top for following security procedures)

Ooooh... a Bigwig who actually appreciates being asked to prove who he is for security purposes. Sweet.

Nice that the jerk who didn't like you got a minor dressing down over it. That's just icing.

There's a story that the local soldiers based on Wright-Patterson AFB tell about a General coming onto base.

The General (Four star, second highest rank in the US, I believe*) came onto base in a big escort. The gate guard, as per orders, proceeded to ask everyone for papers or base ID. The General, for whatever reason, did not have his ID with him, and was going to have to go back to where he was staying for it. The guard's CO (Commanding Officer) proceeded to tear him up one side and down the other for "inconveniencing" the General. The CO then remands the poor guard to KP (kitchen, undesirable) duty for the rest of the month.

When the CO has run out of steam, the General walks up and commends the guard on doing his duty properly. He then turns to the CO and reams him out in front of the entire guard post, then finishes off by giving a direct order to the CO to serve the KP duty in the guard's stead. The last bit is important because, as it was explained to me, a direct order from someone of that rank can only be overturned by one of the Secretary of Defense or the President himself when we're not in a state of war. Not too likely to happen.

I don't know if it is a true story or not, but the soldiers stationed there still speak highly of the General, even after he retired.

*looked it up, and while there is a five-star rank, no current generals are at that rank. It is mainly for interaction with allied forces where our four-star rank would be considered below some of their ranks. Something about WWII and our officers giving orders to higher-ranking officers.

I'm sure that somewhere else on here I recounted when I worked at a bank and requested ID from a vice president because I did not recognize him (I was new). He refused and I was written up, but I did not process the transaction! That bank went under less than a year later.
