This is all very, very true. But the article doesn't mention the lack of support outside academia, because you're "just a student". Or putting up with students who don't respect you because you're "just a TA". None of what you do is seen as 'real work'. You get paid just enough to not qualify for food stamps or any other kind of support, but not quite enough to pay bills. It can be very frustrating.
