  • As if we didn't have enough to do...

At my store, we put up the ad signs for each sale overnight. We generally have three people doing this, and it takes us most, if not all of the night, to get all the signs up.

Then, on Sunday morning, the department specialists take the sign count report for their departments and walk them off to make sure all the signs are up and placed according to corporate standards.

Guess what? Starting next week, working the sign count report will be our job! Apparently the department specialists are just SOOOOOOOOO over worked that they can't find one or two hours to walk off their departments on Sunday mornings, which are always dead until 11 or so.

So now we may have to be staying late to get all the signs up, because evidently the world will end if we leave at 7:00 with signs still needing to be put up. I say "may" because we have already decided we are not going to work those dumb reports unless we get more people. There's no reason we should have to be staying late all the time to do a bunch of work other people don't feel like doing. Stuff like this really makes me wonder why we have department specialists in the first place.

Sounds to me as if their jobs are becoming redundant, if you guys are now doing your work, and theirs, too.

I could see if they were overworked and their other more important duties were being neglected during the times it takes them to normally do that job, but from what you say, that isn't normally a busy time for them anyway.

    That is just silly.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

You guys are lucky for having an overnight team to put up signs. I ALWAYS work Saturday nights and not only do we have to take down signs, we also have to put them up. We usually don't get out until 11:30 or 12. It's awful.

My store also has department specialists who complain that they have too much work to do. They get paid at least $2 per hour more than the level ones, the level ones have to help them do their job, and they have every other weekend off. It's pathetic that we get paid less than them yet we're doing more work. And about 60% of them are unfriendly, demanding, and careless. One of these days I will be complaining to the store manager about this.
